E-85 in Turkey Lake Plaza

So I was in orlando for work and decided to stay the weekend, as you can see I am running on e85 and before I left I checked to see where to fill up. First stop was in ft. pierce service plaza on the turnpike, no problem. Then when I got to orlando I filled up at the trukey lake service plaza on the turnpike as well, again no problem. then on sunday I rode with my friends and their gsxr's to go get gas once again, i got there and it said to pay inside, so i went inside and told the lady that i needed 24 on the ethanol pump, then another guy asked me what car it was and i told him it was a lancer, he proceeded to tell me that mitsu doesnt make ethanol equipped cars and that he cannot sell me e85 because it is a company policy(citgo), i told him that i did the conversion myself and we sat and went back and forth and that i could not put regular gas in my car( didnt have a tactrix cable either, not smart i know) the guy would not budge and then called FHP on me, the officer arrived and was explained the situation and i also talked to him for about 20 minutes. after a while the cop went inside and then all 5 citgo employees came outside and the main guy told me that he spoke to management and that he would allow me to fill up this ONE time. i said thank you, but then i asked him what happens when someone else wants ethanol, how do you check if there car is equipped, he then said that they cross reference the VIN and this other stuff but i highly doubt that. i also tried to give a guy cash to put some extra money in the pump so i can fill up, but before i could even finish my sentence he immediately said NO.

Also some other mechanics came up to me and said next time just paint your gas cap yellow and he also gave me some e85 magnets to put inside my gas door.

It seems that during the day you have to go inside to pay but at night you can pay at the pump. i told the officer, you try to do good for the environment and you have to face some consequences like not being able to fill up on gas. it turned out to be an hour and a half from the time i got there just to fill up.

sorry for the length

Sounds just like the station is just protecting itself. Kinda sux for you, but the station risks thousands of dollars in liability if a car fills up on the wrong fuel.

BTW, don't tell any regulatory agencies/police that you've done an E85 conversion since its technically illegal to do per the EPA.

To get around laws tell them that you converted your flex fuel GM vehicle into a lancer. Don't tell them that you converted your lancer into a flex fuel compliant vehicle, that is technically illegal.

haha yea its me, thanks the car runs great and derek does an awesome job!

i had told the guy at the gas station that i would write up a contract saying that if anything happened to my car because of the gas that i would not sue and i would sign, it becomes legally binding.

Tomorrow begins a new era. Perhaps with Barack solidly behind E85 this attitude will change. In fact, Barack promised "change".

The President elect is behind E85.

I'm sure this will be in the inauguration speech.

I can't believe that somebody stopped you from filling your car up. Nobody has ever said anything to me. I watched a lady put E85 into her Toyota Sienna, and I don't know if they're compatible or not, but it's clearly marked on the pumps that your vehicle has to be compliant. The station wouldn't be liable if it was clearly marked. At that point it's the consumer's responsibility to put the correct fuel in the tank.

I do not think they are. That lady probably made her husband very mad that night.

I've seen a few people add 1-2 gallons of E85 to their traditional gas engines when gas prices were sky high a few months ago...

What a disappointment. I'm so devastated. I thought for sure that with the entire country watching, as well as most of the free world, Barack would use the inauguration address to fulfill his campaign commitment to further the use of E85. Not so my friends. Not a word. Nadda.

I thought perhaps I simply missed the mention of E85 in his speech so I read it over again and so can you.

First day on the job and Barack has apparently sold out to big oil. The promised "change" is simply more of the same. This is one time where I sincerely hope I'm eventually proved wrong.
