Those of you who are getting an ethanol smell in your oil, how long did it take?

My oil is significantly thinned and smells strongly like E85 after only 300 miles. It's pretty worrisome...

Send in an oil analysis if it worries you. Notice how clean looking it stays though? Previously running on 91 it would be black at 1K to 2K miles and smell like gas.

When i run 91 my oil smells like 91 after about the same distance (1 tank). Send it for analysis. I doubt that it has thinned that much. How can you tell it has thinned out? What kind of oil and filter are you using? I am curious as to your situation. Let us know. I have tested several oils in my evo on E85 over the past 15k miles and have never had any problem making it to 3-4k miles before analysis indicates a change is needed, in some cases they push me to go for 5-6k miles on the analysis, however, i feel that oil is cheap and i like working on my car, so change it at normal intervals.. I did run mobil 1 out to 4800 miles without issue (according to analysis). Driving was 1 autocross, and 4 rallyx events mixed with city and hwy driving.

Other oils i have used, Motul 300v, Redline, Rotella. All showed good results.

Keep us posted.

Bob is the oil guy has TONS of discussion on oil and they speak of the likes of Brad Penn Motul etc... here is a link to methanol and oil meth. is even more corrosive and prolly thins oil more than E85 although not sure.

PS Lubro Moly makes good stuff also slightly OT but I'm trying it in my tranny now and have used their moly additive which quiets valvetrain down.
