We have seen no issues of Ethanol being corrosive in the last 2 years of using it.. I have cars that sat parked for 6 months with it in the fuel system and no issues..

Like I said the more people say it/believe it. The more I want to do it. Gives me an advantage. They'll still run Meth....I've heard of too many stories of fail-safe's failing or mixtures being off a tad with catastrophic results.

Much safer/economical/patriotic (LOL) to run corn......

Thanks guys. I'm getting some Kelfords installed this week and then installing 1200 PTE injectors I've had forever and go get tuned.

so once you are e 85 tuned, can you also run regular fuel like the flex fuel cars or not?

no, that requires a special sensor in the fuel system.

I wish they'd hurry up and get e85 close by down here!

Not quite a like a flex-fuel vehicle where you can just toss in whatever percentage of ethanol you want (at least, not yet), but with map switching, you can switch between E-85 and E-10 tunes without much difficulty.

I cant remember which thread it was, possibly even on another forum, I'm not sure. Anyway, a tuning/supply company literally soaked gaskets, lines, o-rings, etc in E85 for over 3 weeks straight. Mind you, they changed out the E85 every couple of days so the naysayers couldn't cry foul due to water contamination. Needless to say, after reading that thread, IMO E85 is extremely safe for the engine, lines, pump(s), etc.
There is not a day that goes by where I think "I hope my fuel line isn't rotting". After doing the research, that is why I did E instead of M.

I'm pretty sure I recall Martin over at AMS talking about doing something like that.

That doesn't surprise me. I like mis-information......just makes for less people running the good stuff. They can have their meth with failsafes and potential engine grenading. I'll run the good ole corn syrup and support alternative's to foreign oil......ok so the cheap race gas doesn't hurt either.

I'm ordering some Kelfords today....going to install those and the 1200 PTE's I have and if I get the parts and install done before next weekend I have a tuning session planned with someone in Alabama. I have to find time to install the Tephra switch as well.

I'M STOKED.

The tidbit on premature wear of seals and piston rings is based more on CYA than on fact.

I recently had the head off my personal Evo because of some leak-down. If I remember correctly, about 13-14% in some cylinders. Compression was fine at 175 across. This was after a year of strictly E85, beating the crap out of the car, and testing some stuff that I would never do on a customers car. The reason the head came off was because I was pushing coolant for about the last year on boost. Turned out either the surface wasn't perfect or the head was lifting for some reason as the HG was fine.

The cylinder walls looked perfect for 60k of abuse (lots of track days, etc). Stock pistons and rings. I ended up putting upgraded springs and retainers in the car and replaced some valve seals. I made it a habit to rev it to 8k a ton on stock springs an retainers so I think that coupled with the higher temp from pushing coolant probably contributed to the valve seals.

Put the head back on and the car now has 0% leakdown in all cylinders.

For photos of my head and pistons/etc, see:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/al...motor-e85.html

and it cleaned up:

^ Thanks for the great info and article! I reassures me to find that you are not experiencing e85 related wear or part failures. I assume it helps others as well

I also agree that the "premature wear" comment was CYA, actually, I expected some sort of disclaimer that stated that unauthorized conversion of an automobile to operate on e85 is a violation of most states motor vehicle code. Guess they don't have a lawyer on staff!
