transporting e85 in virginia
anybody on va is doing this, i have to travel 3 hours to get some, i tried calling the fire marshall and left a message they never called back , i want to buy two 55 gallon drum and rent a u-hual ,
I am. Don't bother with the fire marshall. Call the state police and try to get Paul Baumgartner, he helped me out.
As long as this is for personal use, and you won't be profiting at all from it then you should be okay. Federally we don't have to follow hazmat regs, but good ole VA says we have to. That consists of travel papers, and properly labeled, secured, vented containers.
Here's what I've got:

Where are you traveling to/from to get e85? I'm guessing you're in Richmond by the username. There's a place south of Richmond that has e85, not sure if it's available to the public though. E85 websites say it is, but it's on government property. If you're in Richmond just come on over to Charlottesville, only an hour. Price just went up recently to $2.19/gal. Was $1.99 for awhile most of the summer and until lately.

What do you have in those drums for a vent- I do not recognize that style. Is it a combination pressure/vacuum/fill cap?- if so what model/make (and what is the pop-off pressure-if you know it)?

I cannot find the chart I was really looking for-- one that included more plastics and metals. I have it stored in my PC (rather than my laptop)- if I find it I will post it up.
Found it: http://www.coleparmer.com/techinfo/ChemComp.asp
Select "alcohol-ethyl" in the right box and "all" in the left ---unfortunately polyethylene is not in the overall list unless the product is under a different name.
