I have been having a lifter type tick lately, swapped the lifters, tick remained... Filled up with 93oct and immediately the tick went away... ran the tank of 93 through and cleaned the tiny bit of buildup from the tips of the injectors. Filled up with E85 again today and the tick immediately reappeared... very frustrating to say the least.

Has anyone experienced this before, if so what did you do to remedy the ticking sound? If not do you have any suggestions to get rid of the tick?

Try seafoam in the gas tank. Just read the directions of how much to use in the fuel system. That stuff works wonders. Maybe that will help some.

May try that... but the question is why does it tick on e85 and not on 93...

Could possibly be it picked up some crap that was in the fuel tank and or fuel filter and lodged itself into the injector. Idk how you have it setup maybe you have 2 filters like I know some run, but that is my guess. Seafoam is the cats *** man. It is like a mirical worker.

Maybe from the increased pulsewidth and it makes it more noticeable?

Jamie, it very well could be, however I am hoping it is a lubrication issue...

Just a follow-up on the issue, replaced injectors with a set of FIC 2150s and the tick remains, so I can now rule the injectors out of the ticking, also car is ticking with 93oct as well... I am replacing the lifters (as per David Buschur's recommendation) and going back to a stock HLA (as per Greg2 GSC's recommendation) this weekend to see if that cures the issue...

If switching to pump gas eliminated the tick and putting e85 immediately started the ticking again it can not be a lifter or oiling related problem. It has to be the fuel system. Since the injectors have to be on longer for the e85 it is prob just that noise you hear. I wouldnt waste time messing around with lifters and such if a fuel change causes and eliminates the noise. If it does it on two sets of injectors and there is no "problem" from it I would just leave it alone. If you are having fuel delivery issues then I would try a different brand of E85 and see how that works.

Update... Swapped to GSC No ticks and swapped back to an OEM HLA, if I let the car warm up completely (10 minutes, once the oil pressure at idle is below 50 psi) then there is no noise. Possible blown exhasut gasket??? I am gonna pull the turbo off this weekend and change all the gaskets, and port the hotside while it is off...

I hate to bump this thread, but I don't think oil pressure was the cause of the tick... I have had the tick now since looks like 2011, I have swapped the head, and lifters and the tick persists... I am getting an OEM set of lifters to try as a last ditch effort, but as a back up I have a freshly built 2.4 waiting to go in...

I know they tick Tom, but this is engine related... I pulled off all accessories and ran the engine still had the tick, also switched to the FIC 1100s and run only pump gas now, still same exact issue... I am leaning towards a wrist pin to be honest, the Buschur 2.4L built motor does have around 60K miles on it now... It has been a good one so no complaints there...
