E85 in the news...

There has been an absolute dearth of exciting E85 news in recent months. But not any more. In fact, when the government subsidy expired, a lot of people expected E85 to simply fade away. Not so much.

"Cellulosic bio-ethanol is poised to see large scale production for the first time next year."

This is sweet news to the E85 blood running in this EVO owner's veins.

more production is good but we're gonna need gov't backing to successfully integrate it into our economy at an equal footing with gasoline.

I'd like to think the better answer is, rather than prop of E85, to simply charge the real cost of gasoline with all of the government direct and indirect subsidies. The biggest and most readily overlooked of which is the vast cost of the world wide US military industrial complex, which attempts to keep just enough peace in the world so that we can pay large sums of money to people groups who wish to do us harm just to keep the crude oil flowing.

I think that could backfire a bit because jet fuel and diesel are both made from crude oil as well. There are ways to make jet fuel and diesel from algae which is also one of the developing strategies for ethanol. If this method of fuel production could become competitive, then I could fully see ditching any crude oil subsidies.

That is good news. I too, was concerned when the subsidy issue came up last year

On a side note to the above comments:
The US / Canada have the ability to produce so much new oil that OPEC oil can be eliminated sometime in the next decade (i.e. Horizontal drilling, oil sands etc)

Build the pipe line now

in GA where i lived before it was always E85. In Raleigh it was E75ish until recently. Now its E83. And the price here is more slightly more expensive then regular. In GA it was always 20 cents less (At least at the gas station I was getting it from.

i forgot to mention the prices for me. E85 can range from $2.99 to $3.59. the last 3 fill ups were $3.05. as for 91 from shell or cheveron is ~$4.25-$4.35.
