Timing concern

Well I have made the switch over to the corny fuel and was adjusting the timing. My concern is that I keep reading that the timing is supposed to taper pretty towards redline but its not the way I've set mine up and was just slightly concerned about internals giving up.


The timing set up on the top left makes about 15-20 more hp/tq on my VD though so I'm thinking its what the car wants and she's just not wanting to take less timing and make the same power (the map on the bottom right was on 93 btw.) I just added 5* from 0-100 and 6* from 120-320 to get a general starting point, when I went up to 7* on the 120-320 region I lost a couple hp/tq digits (~3-5) but I have yet to get the chance to go up to 8* timing in the 120-320 region and see if the power loss follows the timing advance.


Any and all help/advice would be greatly appreciated. I was looking through mrfred's thread on e85 timing and the numbers from 0-120 aren't too far off from mine but I cant say the same about anything past that..

almost 75 people have looked at this and not a single one has some advice? cmon...

Some of the more experienced members may have taken a look at your maps and thought to themselves that you don't really have any idea what you are doing.

Your mid range and top end timing is too advanced and you are in danger of doing serious damage to your engine. Do some research by looking at https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/e8...ming-maps.html if you want to get a handle on more realistic timing for your set up.

timing is far too agressive at peak toruque, mid range is too agressive as well... I would aim for 2-3* at peak torque and ramp up at 4500-5000 RPM and shoot for around 18* at redline... if you dismiss this advice, then you may be purchasing a new block sooner than later...

To be honest, your "pump gas" map is to aggresive for E85 in some parts of the map...

Freddie, quick question, just to be sure, u are referring to peak load/boost when u say peak torque correct?

thanks, I thought it was too aggressive as I was reading through the e85 timing thread so I just don't push the car really. The timing that was on there before, the pump gas, was from a "reputable tuner" which I have come to realize very recentlydidn't really care for reliability or durability of the engine...I'll be sure to start over with a stock timing map and go from there.

Kind of, but if you look at a dyno graph peak torque may not fall directly where peak boost is...

Wow!!! That map is super agressive for any fuel..

It reminds me old-times ignition map of the first "seriously tuned" evos in Russia with CR=7.8 or less ))))

It also reminds me subaru's Base Timing map )))
