I'm bringing back this thread from the dead as I have been tuning a car with forged internals that behaves this way. I think they nust have gotten the clearances wrong with the pistons as you can hear the piston slap.

Has any progress been made in getting around false knock?

You can turn it off if you want.

I would try to find the cause and cooperate with the knock control if you can.

If you can't you can pull up a byte (of value 36, change it to 0) to change in Ecuflash, needs some disassembly to find (tested and works fine, knock sum stays on 0 whatever). If you really need it tell me the ROM ID and I'll have a look.

Yes, I was considering this as a last resort. I've had to do it before on a DSM. I like the safety of the knock control system though. Did you turn off the knock control on the subject car?

I think its more worthwhile to try to find out how to edit the knock filter and/or maps. This is a growing problem that needs addressed as the cars age and get built motors making more power.

I am having a simila problem after installing BR 272's cams and Supertech dual springs and retainers. We rotated the balance shaft and the car doesn't vibrate anymore but it knocks and runs -8* of timing 19-36 counts of knock 10.9 AFR and it isn't going over 150 load cells so it seems to be mechanical noise and not real knock. Do cams and valve train cause this knock? It never used to do is prior to this install. I used to have stock valve train and hks 272 cams.

I just read your thread, and then when I saw that you were from the UK I went back and re-read it with an English accent, really added to the atmosphere of this post.

And oh, I have no idea why you are knocking, lemy know.

This car had a bent valve IIRC.

I was thinking of playing around with them, but I am not even sure if they are defined properly (JDM 9 gsr). The maps look very haphazard, unlike the ones defined for the US 9s.

I cannot find knock filter maps in the JDM 9 like those that are are in the US 9. I had another look at the knock routines and find them almost impenetrable. They are much more complex than on the DSM.
