Cali's 76 vs Shell 91 octane.

Well i decided to see what gas knocks less shell or 76. I ran my tank down filled up 2 gallons with shell , did a couple of single gear pulls and pulls from 1st to 5th.

Logged it

then as i was runing low i filled up with 76 drove around, then filled up with 76 again that way it was plain 76 and not some shell left over. Did the same number of pulls with 2 gallons in the tank, 1st to 5th as well.

This was on the same day in a matter of the same hour,

im not posting the logs, but i discovered that shell knocks way less, with 76 i picked up counts as high as 6 and 7 . with shell my highest knock was picked up at the same rpm range but it was only 2-3 counts.
i know there are so many factors involved, that could have thrown it off.

The main onethat worries me is that i started at like 6 pm and i think it might have started getting humid toward 7 pm, I'll probably do it again earlier in the day and see what happens, This test + the fact that motor trend tested gas and determined shell to have the highest BET and most consistent Octane rating. I'm going to keep filling up with shell like i have been.

Interesting, I always thought 76 had the better gas. I have to use 76 because they have my 100 octane at the pump

I do not use 91 octane gas. I know mix 100 and 91 to get 93-94 octane gas. The owner's manual syas to use 93 octane in the Evo and to use 91 only if 93 is not available. It sucks that we do not have 93 @ the pump. But I am lucky that I have a 76 station with 100 and 91 on the same pump close to my work.

I think 76 gas contains some ethanol now. you have to make it more rich for 76 gas. I think shell and other gas stations will follow ethanol mix eventually.
