Need some Advice here...

Well heres the deal I had put in a ported manifold, fmic, o2 housing and figured it was time to get retuned.

Got retuned for 23psi tapering to 21psi at redline. Well took it to the track for the first time and ran a best of 12.9 @ 106mph with a 1.89 60 foot. Apparently it had been knocking at 6k and above in 4th and pulling timing.

So I decide with the advice of a tuner to go back to 22psi. I do that and and log it. AFR's are a bit lean in 4th going towards 11.7-11.9. I richen it abit in ECU Flash and get it to go steady 11.2-11.5.

With the reduced boost i then proceed to just put timing back into where it was taken out for the 23psi tune. I do that and log a pull. Here is what i get:

Just knock in 4th Gear!!
Bare in mind i don't have the Zietronix program to show the AFR's on this computer, but AFR's were steady at 11.4 or so and boost spike at 22.6psi and taper to 19psi at 7k.

So I go to the track and lower tire pressure too much (15lbs) in one of rear tires thanx to some guys borken pressure guage. I then decided from the previous log to add some more timing to the 5k-6k region. So i did the first run and got a 12.9 @108MPH with a 1.86 60 Foot. Heres the Log:

So then i add back the air to the tires and put all at 25psi and decide to add more timing to the 5k-6k region leaving all other timing the same took out a little boost and added gain on the ebc. I then run a 12.6 @ 109MPH with a 1.81 60Foot. Heres the log:

So it seems no matter how much i adjust the timing i still get knock in 4th after 6k rpm. I know the car can trap more and get a better time.

Mods are:
2005 Evo SSL
HKS RS Intake, Fuel pump, Greddy Profec Type S EBC, Forge RS BOV, HKS 280's, Fidanza Cam gears, AMS LICP, Turbo XS FMIC, HKS 2.75 inch DP, Test Pipe, Greddy Evo2 Catback, Zietronix Wideband and Boost Gauge, Ported Manifold, o2 Housing.

****ty launches due to Stock Clutch with Restrictor in place.


Other Vaiables: 18x9 Volk LE28ns, Front Lip, 1 Alpine sub and amp and Spare and Jack present.

93 Octane gas of course.


Any Input will be appreciated. I will try to get the Zietronix logs added but there were none for the drag runs because my serial adapter on my notebook, everytime i plug it in the usb the mouse courser goes eratic, must be some conflict with the ports.

If your unable to get rid of the knock, see if you can find anything rattling like your downpipe or something that can resonate at that RPM..

The HKS RS Intake seemed to be loose and could have been hitting itself on the brace that holds the filter element part up. I secured that.

The DP seems to have clearance excpet for one section after the oil pan by the cross member. There is like 1/4 inch clearance at that point. However the DP seems very stiff.

I would imagine you are trying to ramp the timing up to quick from 5500 to 6000 (too large a jump from 5500 to 6000). Your load is probably dropping off at that point and you are going from say 5500@240 to 6000@220 or something similar and trying to push the curve too much.
