Its one thing to put in a good 1/4 mile, but its another to unknowingly put in a tank of low octane gas and drive like its high octane gas. So we're not talking about a performance issue in this case. Its an engine preservation issue.

When I'm tuning on the dyno, I normally keep the low and high maps the same DURING the tuning, once the tune is complete I pull a few degrees from the low ignition starting around 80 load on up and then richen up the low fuel map in the same manner.

I also watch the logs as the pulls are being made and signal to abort the run if the knocksum starts getting too high.

I can normally nail down the tune in 5 pulls then fine tune with 2 or 3 more full pulls. I also don't copy maps or use base maps, each tune is based on the rom that I pull out of the car in question.

ooops bro. Mine was like that too. I got a base map from a friend. We went and tweeked it and I'm now makin about 30whp more and running about 5psi more than with my old tune. And I have a very safe low octane map. My low octane map now, still doesn't have "7s" and "8s" like my old high octane map did

I dunno if you use them or not...but EvoScan does have customizable alarms. You could just set them to watch for high knock and then you won't have to look at the logs if you didn't want to (with headphones or something similiar to listen for the alarms of course).

If they are both the same, then your ECU will continue to use the same high octane fuel map and your car will keep on knocking.

I wonder if he made the high octane and low octane ignition maps the same?
YES ... the High Octane and Low Octane Ignition Maps where the same as well. I'm pretty pissed considering that I drove about 8 hours to Pruven Performance ... then sat and waited half the day for Al to show up ... and then still didn't get on the dyno until about 7PM that night!! And now I find out that he completely ****ed up my maps!!

Is this guy a douche or what?? I wonder how many other people he has scammed $300 out of, and are driving on unsafe maps because of this lazy bastard??

When was this tune done? If it was done anywhere after I would say mid 2006 then you should have known this going in because it has been all over the forum.

Well, you learn by doing. The longer you are in this community, the more you learn. I received a tune during a dyno day (not the best time to get tuned, IMO. It's like tuning fast-food...just get the orders out!!!)

Once EvoScan came out, I found out my timing tables were very aggressive and I had some pretty high knock counts 12-20 in the upper rpms.

This is a relatively new car, so things are still being flushed out I believe in the community. EcuFlash is a great tool, and many good tuners are beginning to make a name for themselves, whether locally or nationally.

Chalk it up to experience and move on. I know I have

i just had a "well known tuner map" car come in for a reflash..

25.5 psi on pump gas.... real rich... big ole block of timing... big ole slew of knock.. and identical low and high octane maps..

we leaned it out, pulled some boost out, smoothed some timing and made more power with no knock...

food for thought
