I am always late to the party. Who else has had trouble using this method with a restrictor pill? Who has had success? I have been implementing this and don't need to waste time chasing my tail.

If you want to have the best ECU boost control, do yourself a favor and pick up a 3 port. my .02

What he said

If you want to use the pill method, then you are better off using load based boost control rather than psi (direct) boost control.

The pill method does NOT work with this method. I tried with the help of mrfred and it did not work. We got the boost perfect in 3rd gear, but then when we tested it in 4th gear, the ECU was pulling boost like crazy.

It works with the GM 3 port solenoid and the boost bleeder method that mrfred uses to control boost, but it does not work with the restrictor pill in the boost line method.
Wait... what? I'm running mrfred's direct boost, stock solenoid, #65 pill at wastegate and no other pills. What doesn't work? I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "the restrictor pill in the boost line method."

I haven't tried tuning an Evo with a #65 pill at the tee, but my experience in working with nj1266 and Pd1 is that its hard to control the initial boost spike with this setup. Since I don't have any boost spike issues at all, the anecdotal conclusion is that a bleeder works better.

Most any form of boost control has somewhat of a spike. Also, theres tips to tuning the boost (load or psi based) that can cure spikes.

Okay, thanks mrfred. I don't know whether it has been comparatively hard to control the boost spike as I only have experience with my own evo, but it seems like it's working pretty good to me. I initially tuned it with no rom changes, then with your load-based adjustments and finally with direct boost control. The change to direct boost control was basically painless as I already had the WGDC very close. The only changes I made were based on 5th gear runs where I needed to account for the faster spool.

Good to hear that the #65 pill is working for you. I think it would be great if someone could try both the bleeder method and the pill method. razorlab, are you reading this. ;-)))

I would think the GM 3 port is a simple compromise to utilize this system. It is a very easy install and if it works why try to find another method. My $.02 anyway, especially if you need to get the stock pill out, might as well switch to the GM 3-port.

These settings work very well for me. I use a #60 pill and I shoot for 25psi and spike to 26 in 4th and 5th gears.

You'll note the boost error correction is offset so the underboost areas add more than the overboost areas take away... and I also ignore overboosts of 0.3psi.

This is how i would do it. You shouldnt even try to correct .3-.8 psi off. Pullin a point of WGDC will drop boost more then 0.5 psi. Also sometime the correction lags like touringbubble said. etc.

Also having a lower number in the most lower cell will help with spikes. If you have a big number there and it spikes the correction will most likely always pull to much, so keep this number low.
Are mrfred's recommended BWGDC table the same for those using the GM 3-port? If not EVO_KID do you have a recommendation on a safe place to start?

You could start with those BWGDC numbers. Should hit about 20-22 with those numbers
