usb to serial using 2 usbs does it work ok?
hi all, i have the Tactrix OpenPort 1.3U and one Innovate Motorsports LC-1 on the way but dont have a serial port on this laptop, the tactrix is usb, can i use a serial to usb and connect them both via usb? or will this cause a conflict? i can get another laptop if need be, but would prefer to keep to 1
thanks in advance

For DSMlink which uses a specific OBDII connector, and serial port connection. Sometimes the RTS signalling can be lost in an adaptor cable. Meaning the packet transfer that opens the ecu into communicate mode, and STAY in this mode was not preserved. Which makes them not work.
I know without a single doubt the Keyspan Serial to USB adapter will work in this scenario and preserve baud rates & RTS abilities within the transfer. I use it.
Its $40 on average.
But I guarantee you it will work. 100%.
I don't know how critical the baud rate etc is on the LC1. But if it is being logged at a requested rate, this will comply and possibly be more reliable than others that dont.
What I want to know is will a tactrix cable work converted to a mini usb B (5 pin) cable. If so, pocket versions of the apps could be implemented by all.

Yes, I use my Tactrix cable, and a Rad-shack Dsub - USB adapter cable for my AEM UEGO, and they work fine. Trick is, to always use the same usb ports then you plug them in. Also, go into device manager to see what com port the WB cable is using.
At first, I couldn't figure out how to get EvoScan to see my AEM WB. I figured this all out thanks to Mellon

I do that. I plug my ZT2 w/ serial to usb convertor (dynex - from best buy) and my tractix cable. after installing the driver, go to the device manager and it will tell you what COM port it is using.
No not any serial to USB converter will work.]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812107108 This one will.
However you are probably better served with a PCMCIA RS232 serial adapter. If you can find one they tend to work more reliably then the above solution. I have one and it works well.

i got a different laptop with serial and usb, will be trying this week can anyone explain, to know its working as there is nothing on the wideband, i presume you just check the values in evoscan or your logging program??
