I will add, the buzzer could get annoying. My led gets my attention enough just through peripherals alone.
For this do you just run 12v power to one side of the led and ground it on ECU pin 36? Or is it the other way around, the led gets power from the CEL pinout and its grounded to the chassis? Thanks

Yes. Pin 36 is a grounded when activated.

I like the idea of a buzzer (seatbelt warning) buzzing for everytime you knock.

During lapping days on very technical tracks or an aggressive autox course I barely have enough time to check gauges. In addition, during the day light hours that CEL is hard to see. A buzzer would be much more appropriate.

I will try tapping into the harness for this but I'm afraid it will buzz every time I start the car.

Get this:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search

(108db is the quietest you're gonna want if you need to hear it racing. If its too loud you can tuck it under the dash somewhere which blocks some of the sound or place a strip of scotch tape over the front of the buzzer to muffle the sound level)

Simply put this inline between the buzzer and the ECU pinout and only activate it when you are road testing or racing.

Less than 15 bucks fellas.

If you want a delayed turn-on so you dont hear it during start-up instead of the on/off switch, just get one of these. Most DEI car alarm dealers keep these in stock too.

I was thinking of an off switch to...but is he going to remember to turn it on? If he adds turning on the switch as part of his maintenance routine, he'll be ok.

Just edited my post about that actually lol. Read my previous post ^^^^^

Most reputable stereo/car alarm shops could hook up this whole thing for you guys if you bought the buzzer and brought it to them. I mean the shops who sell the 528T or similar product.

^^^ That would be the best as it would save the car and force you to retune.

I'd like to wire up an auxiliary LED for the KnockCEL and am wondering if I need to be careful about the current draw of the LED or buzzer that I choose. Does anyone know what is a safe current draw to run through ECU pin 36 (CEL)?

Thanks!

A standard LED only draws around 20mA, no problem for the power output for the Check Engine light.
