I've noticed a new parameter in EcuFlash v.1.33 that's "Min Temp for Full Boost Control". Does anybody know where this temperature is measured? It is set to 85C in my ROM. I'm wondering if I'm not getting "full boost control" when the car is cold because this parameter might be set too high?

So I just adjusted my driving to work around it. Flogging the car without it being fully warmed up is bad anyway.

In the end no tuner will (or can) take the same amount of time to tweak the tune for every possible scenario as I can when doing it myself. They'd go out of business spending this much time on a single car, and I'd also be unwilling to part with my car for that long. That's why DIY/ECUFlash is such a great thing - I can tune/tweak as I go, making small incremental changes over months if need be until everything is perfect. I do very much appreciate all the work & enthusiasm the various people in the Evo "self-tuning-community" have poured into this - it's a great and wonderful thing!

Next step for me is to do the JDM MAP sensor mod so I can accurately log boost, and ...

while (tune < perfect)
... read
... learn
... tweak
... log
end

I'm sure I'll get it right eventually - after all, this stuff isn't rocket science
you never get tired of that joke do you . Be careful with the labels of some values in ECUFlash they aren't always right.

It is coolant temp. You shouldn't be flogging the car until it's up to temp anyway.

thanks guys - does anybody know what the "middle of the gauge" for the stock water temp gauge corresponds to in actual temperature? I have an oil temp gauge, but not water temp (other than the stock one). I always wait until the stock water temp is in the middle before getting on it, but I've noticed that my boost problems will persist until after the oil temp also rises above ~120F (50C). After that everything works as it should.

Log your coolant temp via evoscan or mitsulogger and find out what position on your car means what.

The factory sensor is so slow I would imagine there is alot of variation between cars.

Voidhawk, how far we've come since you helped me install that Defi Boost Gauge ages ago...

Anyway, I'm in the same boat you are. I have a WORKS tune with a pretty bad boost spike. My JDM MAP sensor arrived yesterday and I'm going to try and cure this problem for good this weekend.

I'll let you know what I find out...
