Just got tuned

I just recently had my 05 flashed. Mods are tubular header and 02 housing downpipe, test pipe, cat back exhaust (all 3 in) and a drop in open element filter.

Cut out the restictor pill for increased boost.

We noticed that the car hit a load of 296 at 3700 rpms which we found to be really impressive for an EVO 8. I was wondering if any one else has see loads this high at this rpm?

Is this load calc or 2 byte load? The pill is oput so your running like 22-23psi? If so your not hitting almost 300 load.
Were you tuning on the road or dyno? If on the road an uphill would cause those loads

I'm not exactly sure if it was load calc or 2 byte as I am still learning everything I just know he mentioned that it hit 296. Yes the pill is out so it was about 22-23 psi. And we were road tuning on flat surfaces. Kyle from DEIPRO tuned the car for me I'll have to see if he can email me my logs and I'll post them.

Either your load is being logged incorrectly, you are spiking 27psi+ or you have a open element filter/adapter that is messing with the MAF readings a bunch.

What type of open filter is it?

Taking the restrictor pill out without adjusting all the BDL/WGDC maps will result in ALOT more than 22-23psi. Even cammed 8's will not make that load at that boost. Options include (if the boost is in fact that, and the gauge is accurate):

MAF error due to filter

Boost leak somewhere

Some other mods being done internally you werent aware of if you are not the first owner.

I have tuned an VIII with a 4" core, DCsport header, 272's, 3"TBE, 26psi, and full ICP and managed 270 2 byte raw value, and something like 284 adjusted based on baro and temp. Our 92 is nice sometimes.

Hello Gentelmen,

The logging was done with load calc and without using 2-byte load (I dont have the patch for his ROM, I mostly tune standalones). I was actually quite impressed with the loads this car was hitting. I dont have the logs infront of me, but if I recall, it hit a max load of 284-286ish, not 296, somewhere right before 4000 rpm. Pulls started from 2500 rpm in 3rd gear to about 7500, roads were flat but wet, and wheel spin was experienced a few times. This was just an initial tune, as the car really needs a fuel pump, and the prior tune on it was clearly done prior to the mods he has on the car. I had to richen the car up at spots as much as two full points, so I imagine the car was running quite lean (it was knocking quite a bit (sustained 8+ counts) on a log I did prior to flashing my base but I did not have a wideband on it at the time). If I recall, duty cycle was above 88% around 6000 rpm.

Still, that is high from what I typically see. The fuel trims were all in check, and his WGDC and BDL have been adjusted. There is no Boost gage on the car, so its hard to say what boost the car is actually running and holding. I have seen a car with similar mods, less the tubular manifold, hold right around 23 psi until 7200 rpm, with similar settings that are in Jasons car. If I were to log in 2byte, the story may be a bit different, but needless to say, his car performed very well after the tune.

Well just to throw out numbers, my cammed (HKS 272s) VIII hits a 2-byte Load of ~275 right before 4000 RPM with a boost level of ~25psig. Boost is measured by JDM Map sensor, and matches Omori boost gauge. I also doubt his car is hitting a ~285 load with 23 psi, but I don't doubt that it could hit that load at higher boost.

that does seem a little high..I extended my tables out to 300 on timing and fuel and don't hit 295 with cams and 9 turbo @ 22-23 psi

Thanks for clearing that up. I have a boost gauge on order so as soon as I get it I will conferm the boost level. I applogize for the mix up of 296.

I also wanted to mention that Kyle does a really great job tuning and I would most definately recomend his services to anyone. Very trust worthy and willing to help you out any way he possibley can! Thanks again Kyle
