I agree on Bryan on this one. These braided hoses expand very very little. Your spike has nothing to do with braided hoses. ... at least that's what my Virginia Tech ME masters, combined w/ my tuning experience says. Plus, Bryan's probably seen and tuned 10 times more lancers than the lot of us... If there's one thing engineering teaches you its that experience > theory.

When you state something as fact when it isn't then I am going to call you out on it. It's not anything against you as a person. There is enough noise on this board already, I'm just trying to smooth the static.

Yes the factory braided rubber couplers can expand on full boost, I've seen it on the dyno. Will it cause boost spikes? No. I have a ton of boost logs from a ton of Evos to prove this if needed.

Bryan is correct, the ballooning stock intercooler couplers have nothing to do with oscillating boost.

The stock couplers do suck, however. Why Mitsu insists on unreinforced hose is baffling (maybe cost?). Replacing them with a good reinforced hose will reduce system pressure drop.

It seems to me that it mimics lag more than it makes boost spikes. It takes some time to expand the hoses and that time isnt letting all the air that could go into the engine do so. As far as 28 on straight pump, well I dont think its totally undoable. Granted it might not be worthwhile but it can be done:

I ran 26psi on straight cali 91 crap on the dyno when I was testing some stuff out. Evo 9 stock turbo.

No knock for 4 back to back pulls. Made 25wtq more than the normal tune that it had at 23.5 psi.

I wouldn't let it leave the dyno like that though.

Power curves look good, whats with the huge dip in the torque curve? Timing being pulled or a dyno anomaly?? HP seemed to be fine in that area though. Also, your boost is quite choppy up top. AFR's look good though. I think most guys will agree that you can get it to tune ok at that PSI but you are on the ragged edge and should be able to tune for the same results with less boost and a little more timing. Why push the limit if you don't have to,right?

One bad tank of gas and you are gonna knock like a bastard.

Their MAP sensor could be off, since this is a dyno providing the boost numbers. Unless of course your in car boost gauge verifies that amount of boost.

Yeah, I've seen some dyno boost sources be all over the place.

None taken! Just wanted to keep the thread on the right track!

I am glad that you took it maturely!

BTW... I agree that the missing info was pertinent to the topic discussion!

Seems to me a lot of boost (28) for 93 OCT! I would not run this on my DD. The max will be 24-25 PSI on 93 OCT.

BTW... Do you have any idea what temps you ar seeing in your area? I am not able to run enough timing at top end to make numbers past the 340 HP. Even thou... I know/feel my setup will make it.

I ran 28psi spike with 4deg timing, at peak tq. Boost tapered down to redline and timing ramped up to 18degrees at redline. All on 93 pump. This particular tune was very close to knock and about as aggressive as I could make it with timing/boost. In hindsight, I believe that a spike of 25 holding for around 2k rpms then a nice taper to 21/22 at redline would have been better.
