how much timing increase

running around 20-24 boost with a full TBE how much timing can you guys get with 92 octane. I was getting some knock in some areas in the 270-280 load 5500-7000rpm. and actually had to decrease from the stock map??? is this really knock or just sensor picking up the extra noise from the now FREE breathing exhaust

The stock timing map is pretty agressive. The fuel map is tame. You need to dial back the timing to run 24psi.

I lways thought the timing maps on 8's were pretty low. Stock at 3500 RPM 240 load is only running 2* timing, and at 3500 260 load it's -1*. But, that's only a peak torque, not high RPM. I am looking at a stock map now, and it does look slightly agressive but only for a stock car.

What areas of the map are you looking to play with timing, peak torque, high rpm, part throttle?

It does get more aggressive towards redline, probably to try and make up for the drop in psi (usually goes from 19 peak to around 15 by redline). If you're able to hold a steady psi to redline you definitely want to dial the timing back a little bit.

Keep in mind OP has a IX not VIII, when you make suggestions.

no no im not in 270 load at 6000 that is crazy at 270 im around 200-220. But I am getting knock at the 270-280 load with stock timing and also knock around 6,000-7,000. (2 knocksum max but holding throughout range)
I will try to taper the boost at 6,000-7000 to around 18psi instead of 20psi.
But as for the 270-310 load knock with stock timing not sure why it would knock.

Well one would assume you were running pump gas at 310% load?

well becuase of the knocking at 260 load, I added some toulene and made it hit the 300 load to see if knocks in the 260-280 decreases, which it didn't. so that why im asking if a full TBE ( i got the tanabe blue G) would cause noise that the knock sensors would pick up. i dont think its a/f ratio problem, and I cant see stock timing being to aggressive.

stock timing is really aggressive actually as stated by some of the more experienced tuners on this forum the guys that actually re code the ECU. the evo was tuned for 93 octane from the factory that is y the timing maps are really aggressive excuse my spelling i've been up for 28 hours. if u wanna run more boost back off the timing and keep ur A/F's correct. i personally chose to run MORE timing on the stock turbo because of its lack of efficiency. i run around 20ish psi peak and 18psi redline and run about 24* advanced at redline this is with cali 91 and meth.

i don't recomend u go below 20 psi between 6000 and 7000...
20 is very reasonable, and you should be able to tune your car knock free...

Instead, you should get rid of the 310 load.. 270-280 is the max u can run up until 5500 rpm imo (93 oct), then let the boost drop until it reaches maximum 1.4 at 7000

maybe in your case you should run even less boost bcs your using 92 oct

regarding knock, maybe your afr's are too lean?? bad fuel quality?? should be something like that, cuz normally it shouldn't knock on 20 psi stock timing imo..

I wonder where people get those ideas...
Also it's impossible to reach 310 load on a viii stock turbo with a TBE at 24 psi.

The stock ign map is very aggressive towards redline considering the stock load profile
