Bump, I am just now starting to get a rash of these, about every third time I drive the car. I bought a cel reader just to keep turning it off now. Mine has a lightened Fidanza flywheel too, and it rattles like a bucket of bolts in the pressure plate. I know it was installed right because I did it, and I am one big **** orfice when installing stuff. I triple checked everything, even maked off all bolts with a paint marker after torquing them..

No other codes are being thrown except the P0300. FYI, I am on the 96940011 Rom..

I don't know if any of the disassemblers have come across the routine for it or not, but if they find it, I'm sure the "sensitivity" could be adjusted until the code stopped coming up.
Just to back up his theory... In a e36 BMW (M3 325 328) if you do a lightened flywheel and lightened crank pulley say bye bye to your crank. Either one by itself is fine. Do both and it throws off the harmonic balance of the crank.

Damit, now it's lighting up every third time I start/drive the car. I am going to check into a few other parts first, before I say it isn't a mechanical problem. I think i am going to do all the routine maintenance and see if it lessens in frequency..

I'm there with you guys, fidanza flywheel and stage 3 clutch. CEL's ever since, gotta keep it off for my NY inspection and then I could care less about it. Btw, how much is a CEL reader/reset tool?

I have the same problem with the random missfire error on USDM evo 8, it appears only when cruising at no load, between 3800-4500rpm, I have a transmission noise, because the gearbox has some problems... I don't know how to get rid of this error.

No one knows how to 100% fix this problem yet. Some have found the CEL parameters in the ROM and are working on a way to trick the ECU into ignoring CEL P0300 but its not ready yet. Nothing you do will 100% fix this problem so don't waste hours of time trying to eliminate it. You might make it happen less frequently, but it will still come back. Some cars have no issues with it and some are plagued with it constantly.

on my customer's EVO 8 the clutch is ralliart, a competition clutch which is very hard to drive on street at low speed. Also the gearbox is almost gone.

I fixed mine. I never got the code at cruise just during idleing situations. I updated to the 15 ROM. Still got the code at idleing situations.

I finally fixed it by just pulling some timing out of the idle portions of my map. I have not had the dode now in about 6k miles

Guys with 8's, I'm tellin' ya...drop the egr timing (incorrectly labeled as boost enhancement adv/ret 2) by about half and usually it goes away, especially if you have cams. I've done this with 2 evo 8's now including my own and neither one of us has had a p0300 issue in over a month.

So you cut each value in half? And just to make sure I have the right definition, in table 1 they are all 0's right?
