ECUFlash Write Failed on Evo IX

I have only ever gotten the car to flash with it on, I’ve read that this isn’t the proper technique but I’ve never had problems, it just turns the car off when it starts writing so I figured someone had thought about the issue =) At any rate I was reflashing the tephra mod V5 this morning.

I started the car told ECUFlash to flash and it turned the car off and off it went. Half way through or so I hear the fan come on?!? But the car is still cold from the night, at least I think it was the fan not 100% sure. As soon as the fan/noise stops the Flash errors out and I think to my self ”oh noes.”

I try to start the car and no go, since I can only start a flash with the car on I’m dead in the water. Keep in mind I’ve gotten it to flash with it off a few times but very rarely. I’ve been trying all morning and reading and I’ve read it could be voltage issues. I have an AMS battery installed and tried my old OEM battery that’s been sitting in the garage for about a month, turned everything off except the carputer and tried flashing and I get the same error.

EvoScan won’t read from it anymore and again my car won’t start. I’m assuming my ECU is “bricked” but is there anyway to flash it, considering I get the other problem fixed or am I just dead in the water? If I am what are the next steps to fix this? Do I need to buy a new ECU? Does it have to be an ECU with the same rom code?

BTW The Error's I'm getting and have ALWAYS gotten with the car off are the following:

[12:05:08.489] sending init sequence 1 (0001)
[12:05:11.753] sending init sequence 1 (0003)
[12:05:15.028] sending init sequence 1 (FFFF)
[12:05:17.792] no response to any known code

Put a battery charger on it and try again. I know this isn't easy if you don't have a socket nearby or a garage. If you can borrow a wireless battery booster and put that on and try to flash it should work.

The ECU shouldn't be bricked since it has a bootloader which is not overwritten.

I've had a flash fail halfway through before, just reflashing it again worked fine. I know this is kind of dumb but you're trying to flash it when the key to the on position right? So the lights on the dash are on?

Yeah the key is set to the on position. I'll get a battery charger tonight and see if that helps. I hope you guys are right, I hope my ECU isn't toast I'm just scared because I've had it fail before and I could start the car, this time the car won't start and EvoScan won't even connect.

BTW Merkzu, I just moved from Minneapolis!

Ok so I got it to work! Hooked both batteries up in Parellel and then hooked the tactrix cable up to the computer directly (was in a USB hub before) and it flashed just fine! Thanks everyone for the boost in moral to keep working on it!

Got it on the highway today though and the clutch started slipping Oh well at least the ECU isn't dead.

I am having the same ecuflash issue. I plugged my laptop into the wall and still didnt help/. I reinstalled ecuflash, tried running it with ecu unlocker and always the same thing. I checked the wire too and none of them are cut. I did notice tha ecoflash likes to lock up and not shutdown )even when using "end task")

No joy, i tried reading right after starting th car and the car just shut off and didn't get a read

I had 9ec9 flash my car in April of 07 when version 1.29 or 1.30 was out. Would anyone mind sending me those versions if they have them since they worked with my ECU before?

tried 1.29a same result, I also cleaned out the registry, tried installing different version of the 1.3 openport driver and still the same result. i can data log with evoscan so i know that the prongs of the plug that evoscan uses are working so I would assum its not my cable or the connection.

According the the factory gauge the battery voltage is about 10.2 which seems kinda low but the car starts up... but it seems 12v is the magic number for writing to the ECU so may need that for reading as well.

EDIT: voltage was the issue
