Strange issue with trying to read '06 Evo 9 MR ecu
The issue is that I can't! For some reason I can't get EcuFlash to connect to my friend's car to start tuning it for her. Every time I try to read the ecu I get a message like this:
[12:05:08.489] sending init sequence 1 (0001)
[12:05:11.753] sending init sequence 1 (0003)
[12:05:15.028] sending init sequence 1 (FFFF)
[12:05:17.792] no response to any known code
I have the newest drivers for the Tactrix cable and a pretty recent update of EcuFlash, but I still can't get anything off of it. I know the program and cable works because I just did a reflash on my car before trying to read the MR. Anyone have any insight to this?

That's what I thought might have happened too, but when I asked the girl she said it's never been flashed and she's owned it from day one when the car hit the dealership.
Low battery voltage will cause this error. Put a battery charger on the vehicle when you're trying to read the ROM and see if you still get the error. I had the same thing happen to me on a car I tuned last week with a mini battery.
If it's something else, it won't hurt to run the unlocker and see that allows you to download the ROM. From what you've said, my money's on battery voltage.

I had an issue reading a car not long ago. I tried everything and nothing worked. It turned out to be the wire in the plug next to the obd2 plug. The wire above it had been cut. Took me 2 weeks to figure it out. I felt like a tard for not checking it sooner.

I'll try these ideas out when I get a chance. I usually turn all electrical loads off when trying to read or flash (lights, radio, etc.) but this Evo didn't even seem to be communicating with my cable...it was like I plugged it into a blank obd2 port. It's very possible that the dealership might have cut the one wire that enables flashing, I'll check that out too and if that's not the case I'll try the unlocker as well.
I'm having a similar problem. I was able to read the rom a few days ago and now it doesn't do anything.
I changed the map sensor and also changed the tables according to mrfred's thread instruction on the 3bar map sensor.
Might have to change everything back and see if it fixes the prob.

My friend has a IX 2006 which I was unable to get a connection to with EcuFlash.
I finally found out that if the car is running I am able to read and write to the Ecu, as soon as Ecuflash starts preparing to read or write the engine dies.
This is the only way I found that worked.
We put a new battery in, checked the voltage and so on but all that was ok.
I also checked the wires and as far as I could see those were ok aswell.
