Does Sean Ivey use ECUflash?
I've been tuned twice by Sean Ivey but never actually knew what he used. I'm assuming it wasn't ECUTek because I didn't pay for a liscense that I'm aware of. The reason I'm asking is because I'm about to purchase a meth kit and have Sean tune it and I want to be able to switch between 93 and 93/meth maps using Tactrix cable and EcuFlash. On his site it only lists EcuTek as far as stock ecus. Thanks for your input. Jim W.
Oh and don't let me forget that I'd like to log data as well. I don't want to pay for a standalone if I don't need to but you guys already know that or this thread wouldn't exist....haha

By the way I did a search and came up with nothing connecting him and ECUflash. He's been busy at the shop as well and it's been hard to get ahold of him so that's why I posted this.
I'm not sure about Sean using ECUFlash, but I just wanted to post here to let you know that you can switch maps without reflashing your car if you use Tephra's alt-map ROM. Your tuner, whether it be Sean or someone else, can set that up for you. Since you are going to be using meth, the patch even has meth failsafes built in so that you can have it automatically switch. I haven't kept up with that thread, though, since I don't use meth, but there is a big thread on it if you want to search.
Of course if you do use it, send a few bucks Tephra's way.

I saw the whole donation thing which is cool. I'll send some money if I decide to use this setup. I guess my bigges concern is this the ROM/maps. Say Sean did use ECUTek to flash my ecu, can I still use ECUFLASH to switch my maps and log? If not then I have a real big decision to make. Either find another way or find another Tuner which is a tough call.
I spoke with Ivey today. His policy is "I do not tune for people that use tactrix cables and have access to flashing their own vehicle" And that's a direct quote.
I've known Sean since 97'... It's always been his way or the highway. He is good at what he does--obviously why I contacted him for a tune myself.
There's a few other tuners on these boards that will handle your needs.
Hope this helps.
By the way,, let me know when you find a good ecuflash tuner in the NY area.

thanks for the help. I can understand his concern for anyone having access to his maps. It just sucks for a guy like me whos only concern is to be able to effectively log data from his car and occassionally switch maps that I would gladly pay for.
Tephra's map switching
Mellon
Or maybe start with the base maps and give it a try yourself. If you take your time and make small changes at first being careful of knock. I think you'll be able to pick it up.

I wish 'Shameless' or 'Mellon' tuning were closer. I'm ready to drop in my 1000cc injectors and hit that 500whp mark, but i thought it be best to have someone walk me through all of the 'hacks' needed to manipulate the ecu the way I want to. Going AEM was the easy route, but since I'm satisfied with 500hp, i don't think it's a needed expense. Just like you, I'm ready to pay good hard-earned money for the guidance, but I want to continue to grow myself along the way.
I definately want to spend some time on a dyno. You can work out so many bugs safely that way. I'm married with 2 children, I don't need to get into a longwinded explanation to my familly about how I smacked-up the car while looking at a lap-top!

Thats so messed up. He doesn't OWN the tune. Its not like he will warranty or pay for any engine damage so he shouldn't have the right to lock you out of your own cars settings. Thats a monopoly on his part. Thats like asking a mechanic to change some parts for you but uses certain bolts that only he can remove so you won't try replacing it yourself or having anyone else do it in the future. He's nothing more than a hired service hand. After that, its your property. F that.

Try to get Tephra's v5 map switching patch with ECUFlash (its free!...if you weren't kind enough to donate, lol). There's gotta be someone who will help you get this setup for you.
