Let's see your lean spool disable Fuel Maps

OK,

I have been trying to find out what is the impact of disabling lean spool on the stock Fuel map. I mean by how much the stock table will need to be changed (or richen) to offset the leaning that occurs when you disable lean spool. Is it 2 point, 1 point, 1/2 a point??

There is already a show timing map thread so I think it will be interesting to see a Fuel Map thread too. Any comments?

well fuel maps have alot more to do with a tune, alot of guys in the ecuflash section here are very liberal about information that could definatly be used for personal gain, i dont know if a fuel maps thread is a good idea, maybe the sections that have an effect on lean spool being disabled.

on your first subject if you disable lean spool then your car would richen up not lean out. and for me it fluctuated alot i cant remember numbers, cause i did it awhile ago, its not hard to tune for and its everything everyone says, much much more consistent

Here's my map I was working on with lean spool enabled, was around 11.3..

Lean spool off, 11.5..

Also turning lean spool off fixed my issues with richening AFR in higher gears

If you can get the AFR you want with lean spool on it doesnt really matter I guess, I think its easier to tune with it off tho

I heart lean spool disable. A/f ratios much more consistent.

I thought that by disabling lean spool the car will lean out not richen up. Are you sure it will richen up from 2500 RPM and up to the disable point (stock is 7000)? What I was going to do is to log the car wit the lean spool enabled and then log again with lean spool disabled and compare the difference in the AFR. Then add (or subtract; whatever is the case) to the original number. After most of the cells are close to stock then I can start tuning the maps mostly for WOT without worrying too much of the impact on cruise or low load conditions.

stock the ECU has "lean spool enabled" this means that the ECU will lean out the fuel map by 'about' 1 full AFR point.

most tuners/people "disable lean spool" to remove this affect, and then manually lean their fuel map out.

lean spool has a lot of "unknowns" in its operation - so rather than putting up with random things happening _we_ turn it off

That is exactly the information I think is useful to the community, especially beginners like me (at least I am a beginner with an EVO, I come from the Rotary and then the Acura All Motor band, still have the Acura and still like to drive it A LOT).

An interesting thing is that you are not modifying the map area where load is less than 140, not even on the RPM ranges from 2500 to 7000. On this area there will be an impact in AFR due to changes in lean spool, any issues with that? Have you seen any changes in your wideband? Looks like the number difference between lean spool enable and disable is about 1 point.

Is it safe to disable lean spool on a daily driver as long as the AFR are tune and are set OK just at one point in time. What I mean is that if changes in temperature, humidity can mess up the settings by having the lean spool disable as opposed to have it enabled.

the only issue with disabling lean spool is to REMEMBER to disable it on future changes... A lot of people lean out their fuel map and then forget to disable it, double affect

anyways disable lean spool and get tuned to 11.5:1 (in 3rd AND 4th) and you will be fine..

When you disable it on a ROM you actually mod the disable and enable set points (RPM) to make them the same. Once that is changed that info is part of the new ROM you flash to the car. So as long as you always use the same ROM file for future upgrades or just read the ROM from the ECU modify it and flash it back you should be OK with respect to that. No need to worry about changing any settings with lean spool. At least that’s how it should work based on the ROM changes, Right?

yeah I keep a running copy of my ROM on the computer - but with all these patches its easy to forget.

Peak boost is 360 load for me at 30-31psi on e85, I just scaled it to 380 in case I wanted to raise the boost later.
