Setting it to 0 means the knock sum won't get bigger than 0. I think when it is not working (if you can't find the cause) it is best just to disable it because it is unreliable. I've also successfully tuned (non-Evo) engines to high specific outputs without knock control, using det cans.

See if that helps.

Also i've found the M3 cams don't like as much advanced mivec as usual on spool transition and peak torque. This will cause the car to knock as well. Care to post your mivec map?
+1 on smoothing the transitional timing. I get the same "lingering" knock if I force the ECU to have to interpolate too quickly from cell-to-cell in the 2.5K-4K RPM (100-to-peak load) range.

Watch your graphing during sppol up, timing should drop in a very smooth shape. If it plummets with jagged drops, thats gonna cause inconsistent timing curves depending on the road conditions each time since the load will jump faster/slower and at different points in the map every time. This is one reason that people has great 'dyno' tunes that just suck on the real streets. Good tuners tune the entire map, hack tuners only tune your power curve on the dyno. That causes more inconsistencies in your resluts more than anything.

PSH, hardly. For most evo owners, there is no need for the AEM. If you desire to light money on fire, buy one. The issues are usually tuning techniques. The AEM has better resolution so its obviously easier to smooth the transitions but I feel that the stock knock sensor system is one of the best you'll ever find. Grab a haltech setup that doesn't even use a knock sensor, that'll be awesome *rolls eyes* lol.

No it just means it won't register knock higher than whatever you put in.

Cobb ProTuner has had this table for awhile now...

If you set the tables you had in your post to "uint16" scaling it will show 36 as default, 36 is the default max knock count.

So realistically we do have knock control now? This doesnt require slipping to the other tables to make the car run on the low octane maps I take it as well?

To bad it wasn't the opposite.....I want it to ignore under a certain number (ex. 3) so anything under 3 counts the ecu wont do anything about it. Would make my life so much easier......I hate the fact the car will pull 1 degree of timing at 1 count of knock, that is just a little overboard imo.

The VIII's I have messed with don't even do anything until after 3 counts.....makes them so much easier to tune and live with because 1-3 counts of random knock in a tune is not abnormal when conditions change daily....

Realistically we have a knock ceiling that we can lower or switch off. Not very useful in my opinion, basically a light switch.

Yes it doesn't make it revert to the low-octane tables, nor does it turn boost control off. I tested it today.

88590015 06' evo offset: 1382

The memory offset will read "0024" this is knock sensor active

To turn it off, enter "0x0000" this is knock sensor disabled

To turn it back on, enter "0x0024" for knock sensor active

I've run this on one of my personal cars with a built 2.3 AMS engine for many many miles, driven hard on 91 oct. w/o any problems.

With the sensor on, the car knocks before boost even hits. And the car would simply make poor numbers and be a waste of time & money.

I would consider this a last resort against phantom knock. If you know what you are doing tuning wise you will not have any problems. If you are a tuning novice this is not a mod to try.
can I get a little detain on how to implement this...I'm missing something here.

It's an address for you to add a 1D table to your XML, either 1782 for earlier models or 1382 for the newer ones. Viewed in Uint16 it is the maximum allowable knock sum. All models should have 36 as the value, but setting it to 0 will effectively disable knock control. Doing it this way doesn't cause your ecu to go limp and resort to the low octane maps.

Here is an example def for the 88590015 Rom..

<table name="Max Knock Count" category="Misc" address="1382" type="1D" level="1" scaling="uint16"/>

You can made the knock sensor less sensitive... I think is better that disable. Safer!!

heres a better solution to add to your xml

<table name="Knock Load" category="Knock Control" address="407e" type="2D" level="2" scaling="Load8">
<table name="X" address="4d76" type="X Axis" elements="10" scaling="RPM"/>
</table>

<table name="Knock Multiplier - Low RPM" category="Knock Control" address="177a" type="1D" level="1" scaling="uint16"/>

<table name="Knock Multiplier - Mid RPM" category="Knock Control" address="24a8" type="1D" level="1" scaling="uint16"/>

<table name="Knock Multiplier - High RPM" category="Knock Control" address="21dc" type="1D" level="1" scaling="uint16"/>

<table name="Knock Adder - Single Gain" category="Knock Control" address="177c" type="1D" level="1" scaling="uint16"/>

<table name="Knock Adder - Triple Gain" category="Knock Control" address="1780" type="1D" level="1" scaling="uint16"/>
