Equipment needed for tuner?

Just curious to know what exactly I need in order for a tuner to use ECUFlash on my car. Tactrix sells an $11 cable and a $189 cable, which one? I'm assuming the more expensive is for self-tuning? I want to be able to switch maps on the fly, between pump and race gas.

Thanks

The 189.00 includes the $11.00 cable to flash VIII, IX, etc......

The $11.00 wont work unless you have the 2.0 cable:

This Mitsubishi reflash connector is for use *only* with the OpenPort 2.0 when reflashing pre-CAN Mitsubishi vehicles such as the Evo 5,6,7,8, and 9.
- to switch maps on the fly you need to have tephras patch done and the map switch harness installed......other than that you have to stop the car, reflash and then go.

I read that thread but got lost in all the things I would need if I was tuning it by myself.
So I supply the laptop. They supply the wideband. What else do I need to bring them to make this happen?

call your tunner..... In DFW KevinD does it, he has a harness made to go on your car, and you need to bring nothing to have your car tuned, some tuners will require a wideband etc......

Anybody know anything about the harness? When I'm on the road all I want is the laptop in my car with the ability to switch maps if necessary. I'm never changing my setup and the car is for the weekend only so it would not be reasonable to tune the car all the time.

Sounds like what you need is to get the car professionally tuned on a dyno/by a tuner with a wideband for two maps. Get the map switching harness (search on this forum) and then you would just switch the maps.

If you aren't going to change the setup and only need those 2 maps and no others no sense in getting a laptop and the cable and what not. Those are for the people who tune themselves or "tweek" their flashes. If you are doing neither...

Since AMS is in my backyard, all I do is bring them this patch harness and tell them to flash the ECU for two maps? Is it that simple?

if you have a shop tune your car you shouldn't need to provide anything. just tell them in advance what you want to do, they might be able to provide a switch harness.

you end up with a small switch you flip for one map or the other. I have my switch inside the coin box on the dash by my left knee.

in your case, don't buy a flash cable, you don't need a laptop.
