Map confusion
Map confusion
I am sry if this has already been discussed but i couldn't find the old thread in my search.
I just need a description on which maps are used and why...
I am refering to the high octane fuel map and low octane fuel map
also
The high octane ignition map and low octane ignition map
When are certain ones used and how should tuning be done on these...
THANKS

you should tune your high octane and ignition maps. leave the low maps, they are for when the car the car needs to switch maps.
it acts as a safety barrier....
for example when u get bad gas, the car will interpolate values from the low map and the high map to make your car run safe.

ok. simple enough.
One other question, I am having a few counts of knock but only when i let off the gas at rpm's between 4500 and 7500. this occurs during shifts or just lettin off the gas. The timing advance shoots way up because the load is gone (load will be at 80ish) and it gets a few counts of knock.
Is it as simple as retarding the timing from the 30ish its at now to mid 20's. its not like i need to produce power at that low of a load and that high of rpm

rolly is partially correct but often your high octane fuel map will end up with lower values than the low octane fuel maps when it's tuned...don't forget to make your low octane map more conservative when you're done. You'd hate to have knock and the ecu go to the low octane map only to find a leaner tune!

lol.
ok thanks. however i still havn't had a reply to my other question..

honestly who cares about a few counts of knock when you're off the gas, there's no load on it...that would be like complaining about a few counts of knock while using the 2-step or part throttle... don't waste too much energy chasing ghosts.
Chris, i know earlier people were saying its good/better to have (on a IX) all 3 high octane ignition maps match for a consistent tune. Most threads i see are pretty dated. Is this still the recommended practice? Just asking since tuning w/ ecuflash has always been a progression... are there any negative effects? Logic tells me no, since my low octane maps are still there w/ timing retard. Just trying to figure out why my high octane ign map #1 is different while #2 and 3 are identical.... im not hitting the highest timing advance past 7k rpm as shown in my tune so im assuming something is telling it to pull back a degree. Assuming its based off data in map#1.. although im not hitting any knock at all and though it should be based off high octane ign map 2?
