Help me with my first tune! (Maps and log inside)

Hey guys, please help me with my first tune. I have been working on it for a little while now.
My fuel map is looking a bit odd to me...

I am running 23.5 psi peak and tapers to about 22 psi. I am running cali 91 oct.
It seems i cant get my timing very high at all. Is it the gas?
Mods are in sig.
I am running the "radical" mivec map.

Thanks for your help!

If it where me, richen it up from 3500 to redline just a smidgen, shoot for 10.8 at redline and lean out and smooth the spool up area (120 and 140 load look too rich). Also, you may want to richen the entire spool up area a smidgen. Start richer and go leaner in small steps until it gives you the results you want.

More than 28.8 in the mivec map does nothing.

Also, what are your AFR's?

Can you attach a LogWorks log?

If radical = overlap, you will see it as lean during peak from blowing the fuel mix out the tailpipe. If it's still too radical at higher rpm when turbine backpressure increases and overlap needs to stop, you will see it as knock and loss of power as exhaust fills the charge.

30.0 still does nothing. 28.8 is max.

I didn't see the log the first time, I'll check out the AFR...

I would say you are running a tad bit lean for 91. Try to richen it up some, see how the car responds, then see if you can add a degree or two.

Yes richen it up a little and see if that lets you add some timing

Don't misunderstand me, I respect and enjoy reading razorlabs wise posts.

I'd be the first to say your timing looks a little low, BUT if that is what your car takes then so be it. Unless there is a mechanical issue.

The key to running a motor is to have the maximum power from the combustion burn happen somewhere around 15 degrees after TDC. So if you get as close as you can to that number by running lean and low timing or rich and high timing then you are doing the right thing.

Granted the oem afr tends towards the latter, every tuner except one on this forum (that I have noticed) rides the rich column too.
That is not to say it has to be that way. The cooling effect of over fueling is weak at best, and possibly could contribute to washed cylinder walls, carboned piston tops and other things. None of which I have heard about as being a problem with evos.

So by all means experiment with a richer afr, add the timing (if it will hold it) judge the outcome, is it better or just richer? Go with what works best. In all likelihood Razorlab is right. I am really just throwing this out there so you understand why you are tuning your car's afr.

I come from an engine with 50/50 water/ meth so I can go a lot leaner than most.
I can get 5mpg at the track (+,-) at 11.3 or 7mpg (+,-) at 12.3~ 12.6. I run the timing I can get away with.
Who knows what I would say if I had to run 91 in hot weather.

nothere,

Thanks for typing that. Basically what I would have said if I had the time at that point to write it.

My short sloppy posts where a "try this and see if it gets what you want"
