for the average joe public running stock ECU without a MAF is not possible - yet...

unless you are pushing 300kw+ then you don't need to worry about removing the MAF..

MAP sensors on the stock ECU tend to be problematic. Even with an auxillary ECU making the calculations (like I am using) and the stock ECU making all the control changes. You can run into odd lean spots, tip in issues, cruise issues. How does your tuner plan to implement this switch to just a MAP sensor? Does he mean a full standalone?

Its not even fully possible yet with the stock ECU. There are maybe 2 people working on this right now but there isn't anything available to everyone just yet. Like Tephra said, for most peoples power levels, you don't need to change anything. People are making over 500whp on the stock ECU and MAF with no issues.

The problem with the maf/ecu is that all the programmed settings and filters were calibrated and tuned for stock everything. All the way down to the snorkle and airfilter which have a significant effect BTW.

Even though most of the offset obtained with mods can be fixed with hundreds of datalogs, flashes, and experimenting and failures, it boils down to getting an airflow hz signal respective to volume at all volumes, pressures and temperatures, and loads. On the otherhand this does provide you with somewhat effective means of afr control, just a very roundabout way requiring constant logging and tweaking.

I still run maf but I bet you'll be better off with density method when tuning cam timing, different cams, or head mods.
