Tephra mod showing strange knock CEL
Hi Guys,
First of all a big thank you to Tephra for the time and effort he puts into the ecu mods
I have a 2005 AUSDM Evo 8 with 96530006 Rom ID. It is (sadly) stock except for drop in filter. Running 98 octane pump gas.
I have used tephra's version 5.10 mod and enabled CEL on knock. I have also enabled spray ICS on knock. All the settings for these are left on default.
With this I have been experiencing the slow CEL flash (ie. knock count 3-7) when just sitting there in neutral and revving the car past about 2500rpm
This also happens when rev matching on a downchange while driving. That is, when I am going to change down a gear, I depress the clutch and I blip the throttle and it revs above 2500 or so, the slow CEL will flash.
There is no CEL when doing repeated 3rd gear pulls to 7000rpm
. It only appears to do show the CEL on knock with no or low engine load?
This happens with using the the base maps and also with some modded maps that I have loaded as alternate maps.
Any thoughts on this would be hugely appreciated as this is causing me some concern. I have a Tactric 2.0 cable so unfortunately I am unable to log at this stage.

isnt that too high of an octane to run on a stock? sometimes running higher octane than Premium fuel either make the car run smooth or **** especially when your not tuned for it...

Thanks for the replies guys. So I guess its real knock then if the evo's tend to do this at low load
03RRVIII: I think the AUSDM cars are tuned for 98 octane. There is a "98+ octane only" sticker on the inside of the fuel hatch.
It doesn't worry me because i think it is damaging the engine (hopefully isn't), but if it knocks when down-changing and free revving, I guess the knock counter will slowly count down from 255 and the ECU may get changed to low octane maps for no good reason?
