Odd phantom knock finding...

Ok, I know there are many phantom knock threads and stuff and I've read literally about 65 pages of differing information on it.

My car has issues from ~2800 to ~3400, whether I'm riding around town smoothly boosting in 2nd or 3rd, I'll randomly get some counts. Its usually around 80-125 load. If I do a WOT pull from 2500 or 3k I'm more than likely going to get a count(up to 8ish or so) that will steadily decline all the way through the pull, but it makes the ECU pull timing. Ive raised/lowered timing and fuel, not much difference.

I put in some VP MS109 today to see how it reacted, and while I was there made a quick tune for it (28-30psi, 6-17 degrees start/finish respectively).

I noticed this phantom knock actually seems to have gotten WORSE! Now I'm starting to see 10+ counts sometimes in that same area, and it of course trails through my pull.

This seem normal or am I missing something?

Hard to say when you changed the tune. If it really is phantom it may increase, it may decrease. I've noticed that it is very hard to keep all things the same from pull to pull. You have to do quite a LOT of testing to make a valid conclusion from one change to another.

I made about 20 min of driving and roughly 10 wot pulls before I touched the map, it stayed just as random as it had before, but tended to be higher in count.

Thanks for the input though

No problem dude. Glad to hear you're still around btw. Thought you fragged your lancer a while back on some used 50 trim. Still in the Roanoke area?

I'm just saying, I've thought I was doing consistent testing too... but I've gotten many variant responses. I'd say if you're getting inconsistent knock then you're looking at phantom knock. I was seeing the same thing and the mods from that thread have helped me.

Yeah, after the slight tweaks it has improved 99%, so I'm pretty happy with it.

My old car the motor did pop, but not on the 50 trim. The 50 trim let go long before the motor, lol. The 61 finally did her in one nite. I put a 2.3 and 35r on that car and enjoyed it for quite a while. Then sold it, and now I have this car
