EcuFlash and Windows Mobile
EcuFlash and Windows Mobile
I'm trying to get everything sorted out with switching to a ROM where I can switch maps, but I was thinking about this last night.
If you have a phone that has Windows Mobile and a USB port on it, could you run EcuFlash and use that to switch maps on your car? Carrying is second nature to pretty much everyone now and is MUCH more convenient than a laptop.
I know the tephra mod would be easier, I was more just curious. A lot of phones come with a mini USB port that you could get an adaptor for the tactrix cable if it would run. The only question I would have is how quickly it could load the program into the car considering it's slower processor.

No.. windows mobile is different on several levels where the PC version of ECUFlash will not "run" on it.
Another issue is with your phone, in order to use the openport cable in the first place, you would need to find a Windows Mobile device that has something called "USB Host" instead of just a mini USB port. USB host capability is what allows devices to detect thumb drives, serial cables, etc. (drivers are another issue, but more easily solved)
I have found several Windows CE 5.0 and newer GPS Navigation devices actually have USB host and are basically fully equipped to be able to log data with an Openport 1.3 cable.
Reflashing also requires voltage from the USB port to be combined with voltage from the OBD-II port to trigger the Reflash mode connector on earlier (up to the Evo IX) and most devices cannot provide enough current to do that, most only provide enough to power up smaller devices such as thumb drives.
Logging is easier, I've had a windows mobile version of Mitsulogger that works with my HTC Tilt, the big problem is it doesnt have USB Host capabilities, and have had marginal success with using a bluetooth serial plug with a VAG-COM KKL cable that uses a DB9 serial (or a home-brew TTL/Serial cable with the bluetooth plug)

I run my Windows Mobile daily to datalog my ECU, through a serial port and VAGCOM KKL RS232 cable, and I changed the MUT rate to 38400. I can also map switch with it, although I abandoned this part of the code after Tephra brought out his map switching.
Evo4mad's new gizmo does or will do reflashing on a Windows CE device, he sorted out the USB host for his chosen device.

I figured there was quite a bit more to it than just plugging and go. I have a small EEEPC that would work if I load windows on it and I wouldn't care so much about leaving it in the car if need be.
I'm going to continue to try to sort out the issues I'm having with using the other ROM and go with the switch if at all possible. Either way it won't be the end of the world. Thanks for the response though.
