Ecu Boost control vs. MBC

Hey, Has anyone ever switched from a MBC to the Ecu Controled boost and did a before/after dyno? I have the Hallman Evolution RX MBC and i think it works pretty well. Just trying to see if its worth all of the work to switch it over.

I didn't do a before and after test on an actual dyno just road testing. My impressions are two points.

1) You can reduce a potential boost spike making power delivery feel less violent

2) I'm actually able to manually creep the boost up as RPM's rise and the VE of the motor starts to fall resulting in a little more top end.

I'll see how far that will go when i install the Red hopefully this week or the next.

Ok, that sounds like it may be good for me. I plan on tuning the car on E-85 in a month or so. That may let me pick up a little more boost on the top end. Even though its on the tiny 8 turbo, haha.

yeah i did the switch but never dynoed.

believe or not i am the only evo owner in Trinidad using ECU controlled boost.

its a complete difference before my car felt 21 psi and tapered to redline with occassional boost spikes. now i am hitting 23 psi and holding to redline.

What is the approx cost of switching over from a MBC to ECu controlled. I run a Hallman Pro on my car and the spikes scare me sometimes.

ECU controlled is ultimately a better system. You can fine tune boost along the rpm/load range. The downside is that it takes more time to set up properly. Additionally for those of us who live in the north, when winter comes you can't just turn down the boost controller. You will need to formulate the settings to reflect cooler temps. If you are prepared to do the work and modify it as necessary go for it.

Modify, log, modify, log, etc.

I wouldn't do the load based, i would do the boost based with the 3 bar map feedback loop. That should correct itself during the cold weather.
