Netbook - opinions

Im thinking about gettin a netbook for loggin and tuning. Im just a lil scared the screen is gonna be to small, as in hard to see the numbers in the cells in ECUflash and such. Im looking to get a 10" netbook. So people that use a net book for tuning and loggin, please give me your opinions on my concern. Please include screen size

I have an Eee PC 901...running windows xp. Works great for EcuFlash and EvoScan. No problems with logging at all. Battery with brightness lowered runs for hours ...probably ~5-6 hours no problem.

Screen size isn't a problem, I can run all common resolutions, along with switching them on the fly so I can see things such as maptracing easier.

What size screen do you have? Im not worried about actual logging, more like looking at logs and using ECUflash, changing the small cells, etc. Like does a fuel map fill the whole screen or no? Hows viewing a log in EVOscan using the graphing feature (what i usually use for looking at logs)? What resolution do you run?

thx

I was testing them out the other day. I think I'd stick with a 10" screen. I'm just not sure if the Atom processor is strong enough to handle Evoscan/EcuFlash/Excel simultaneously.

It's an 8.9 in screen, 1024x600, check the attachment for a screenshot from the Eee running EcuFlash. Also, has the option to do 1024x768 which makes it alot easier to see when looking at big things such as logs etc....the Eee 901 won't be able to do the 1024x768 out of the box though.

The atom processor is more than enough power to log, run ecuflash, and excel all at the same time. Sure, it's no gaming rig, but you can put it through its paces no problem. Also, with SpeedswitchXP you can easily tell the processor what you want it to run at...awesome if you want full speed for logging, then drop it down to save battery to surf the web.

i just ordered a Lenovo S10E with the 1.6ghz processor, 1gb of ram, bluetooth, 6 cell battery for 5+ hours of tuning! and it has a 10.1" screen. i ordered this one because of the consumer reviews for it and my buddy recommended this over the rest. i want this to be my travel and logging/tuning PC.

i got it for 374 shipped. once it gets here i'll get to logging/tuning since i got a few new things for the evo. i'll let u know how i like it.

the PC also has face recognition log in as well as fast boot that will let you run certain things without fully booting up the computer.

I just bought an eeepc 1000he (the new one) to use with the OP2.0 cable only. So far it has run flawlessly and I get around 8 hours of use out of the battery. It has a 10" screen and have never had an issue with it.

Acer Aspire One running windows xp, with a 8.9 in. screen. Fits in the glove box when not being used. Love it!

I'm not a Dell fan, but the new Dell that just came out looks nice...

I personally would go with the Asus one but it's a smaller screen...so

The laptop I use to tune only has about a 12" screen, but it's plenty big to see from the drivers seat. I would imagine a 10" wouldn't be too bad.

I love my netbook. I got the 10" one so that the keyboard is actually usable (unlike my friends 8.9" that my fingers don't fit on). I use it every day and the battery lasts around 5 hours, and logging it lasts a lot time too. It's the Asus EEE PC 1000HA. I got it for $324 shipped, brand new in the sealed box on ebay. I got the white one so I can see the keyboard perfectly even at night in the car; it actually looks pretty sweet too.

That's a good point. The smaller netbooks have keyboards that can be pretty hard to use if you have bigger hands.
