Logging and Patching 2001 Evo VII

Gentlemen (and Ladies?),
I am in the US and have an EDM 2001 Evo VII RSII. I currently am running the 9986002 rom and am wanting to log and patch properly. I had switched to the Tephra 5.10 rom 90550001 but started getting the Check Engine Light with a P0400 code. I tried switching Periphery Bits in order to fix that problem, but had no luck.

So currently I am back to running 9986002 and everything is fine, but I have added cams and a different turbo and need to tune for the new parts.

I understand the theory behind tuning and have tuned using aftermarket ECU's before, but am struggling to grasp everything when tuning with the factory ECU.

First and foremost is logging. I am starting to understand 2 byte vs 1 byte but am not sure the proper way to log these figures. Do I have to modify the XML files in EvoScan or are they good to go? Do I have to modify the rom using EcuFlash first? Do I have to switch back to the 9055001 rom or can I continue to use the 9986002?

I understand how to change timing and fuel parameters within EcuFlash so I am not too concerned with those features, but I want to ensure I am logging correctly with EvoScan. If someone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I would also appreciate XML Files for both 9986002 and 9055001 as they don't appear to be standard files for EcuFlash and I somehow lost them.

Thanks a lot.

Dan

Also, is it neccesary to run Tephra's 5.10 mod in order to log properly? I don't need most of the features he has to offer, but if I should run it, please let me know. Thanks again.

it is to your advantage to try and use a popular VII rom, usually a tephra patched one, so it is a shame that you have a code that you are not able to get rid of. have you tried posting on the mlr, lancerregister.com, since those guys have more experience with VII's?
you can only use 1byte load with a tephra rom since there is a 2byte to 1byte load factor that must be set based on how your load axes are scaled. you can log 2byte load on any rom provided you know the mut addresses in the rom to change. you will also need to have the mut table exposed in your xml to be able to change the addresses. if the 2byte load mut addresses are not published for the rom you're using then you will have to ask or pay one of the disassmeblers on the forums to find it for you. with that said there are people that tune still using load calculated; operating under the assumption that it reads 20-30 off (i don't recall which direction) so it isn't impossible to tune without any of the 2byte, 1byte stuff. hope this helps you.

I have posted basically the same post on LancerRegister and have not had a response yet, but I am not TOO concerned with the P0400 code as I didn't spend too much time trying to get rid of it. At that time I didn't need a tune and was content with running 9986002. So making the switch to 90550001 isn't a huge deal.

This just blew my mind... Can you clarify what you mean by... you can only use a 1byte load with a tephra rom. Essentially, what does this mean and how do I utilize this function.

According to the Evo ECU Wiki the MUT addresses are known for 99860002 and most, but not all, are known for 90550001. What does this mean for me?

This does help, but I have a long way to go before I fully grasp the concepts of logging. Thank you for the help and your patience.
