Switch to BCS from MBC to get higher boost @ track

Alright guys here is the situation.

I live in CO and our tracks are at 4800 and 5700 ft respectively.

Im on the stock IX turbo, manifold, 02 housing, actuator using a hallman MBC for boost control.

Recently i've been looking into switching to gm 3 port BCS but before I do im wondering if doing so will allow me to hit a higher boost on the track then with the MBC.

Right now I mostly been hitting 26 psi on the track and at one point hit 29 psi at the last outting but since i dont have a MAP sensor yet dont have a log of it. For the street I regularly hit over 33 psi.

So will switching help me out or is this all the turbo can possibly hit at this altitude no mater what.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks guys,

You are getting out of the efficiency range of the turbo boosting that high.

Consider tuning it for allowing better timing and fuel curves on 26psi.

Also, you will gain a lot more control over the boost taper and spikes switching to EBC.

The altitude is starting to really play a role in your situation. You definitely have to run more to get less in your situation. The BCS will give you every last bit that turbo has to offer, should you choose to demand it. But that won't change it's range of efficiency... or the air density @ 5000ft.

You should be able to tune out some of the spike and hold a flatter target with a BCS.

Im not looking to run what i run on the street at the track but being able to hit 28 consistently would be nice.

I guess ill get my stuff in line to get a gm 3 port and omni 4 bar map sensor.

Thanks guys

You can control boost with the stock solonoid. Do a search on here. There is a ton of information on the topic. You will need the JDM or Omni map sensor though to get the boost you are looking for.

For my goals the stock isn't going to cut it.

I just upgraded to GM 3 port. I had no problems running stock BCS with upgraded pill in Vegas, but moving to Reno at 5000ft my boost dropped 4psi to 16 at peak! Right now I have it running great at 25psi tapering to 22 at redline. It takes about 2x the wastegate duty cycles that people usually post for their sea level tunes, so dont be scared off with that. Right now at 3500 rpm I am running 80% WGDC to get that 25psi. At 100% Im thinking it might be around 28-29, so if you are getting higher then that with your MBC you may want to just leave it be. The GM 3 port is way more consistent though, like previous posters have said.
