BOV / DV questions

Since I have an APS dual vent BOV I noticed at idle I can look into the external port and see the valve moving slightly at idle.

My question are....

Should the valve be moving at idle?
Does the stock DV leak slightly at idle or cruise conditions with high vacuum?

Since installing my revolver cams and numerous other mods I lost a lot of idle vacuum. I am curious as to the exact cause and effect.

My car runs very well with my tune so these questions are more for curiosity than anything.

I realize this the the EcuFlash section, but I tun my car with the program and the people in there have genuine concern of their fellow evo owners. Not to mention....you are all so friggin smart.

Thanks

Paul

Might have something to do with your cams. Mine is closed at idle while i've noticed many bov's that are slightly open at idle.

Put your hand to it, does it actually leak or is it just moving slightly?

As far as I can tell it isn't leaking out of the vent hole. Now on the recirc side....I have no way to determine that.

have you tried adjusting the bov (if you can) or changing out the springs in it? i am not familiar with the twin vent unit, although i'd expect aps would send different springs for different amounts of boost you're running, which may help.

I tightened it down pretty good since putting on my cams and green. It would flutter pretty badly before I tightened it. It holds boost like a champ.

Again, I am not concerned with my setup as my car runs very well. I was just curious about what others have experienced with BOV / DV movement at idle.

I have the same valve on my car, it is normal. Any amount of vacuum will pull the valve up since the signal side is sealed very well, the stock valve was the same way. If you have a hand held vacuum pump you will notice that it holds vacuum & does not leak.

Can you tighten it down anymore and test to see if you can get your vacuum back up?

I am glad to see that it is normal. The movement is only about a mm or 2 so I know it isn't leaking at all.

As for tightening it more.....it will cause it to react slowly and the car won't perform like it should. Too tight is a bad thing.

If it leaks on the Recirc side you will be ok i think since its POST maf. I love my APS twin vent, i would agree with mellon that it is one of the best ones you can get for maf cars. It holds like a champ too.

I've found that it leaking during idle really isn't bad if your return tube is airtight... but I didn't like it and so I replaced that little allen stud on top with a longer bolt and tightened it down more. I tightened it just to where it would surge and backed off a bit. Now it doesn't open but just a tiiiiiny bit at idle and it holds boost fine and doesn't surge. Best DV ever.

how does the twin vent sound??
anyone care to do the work of posting up a vid?
i think i may run this instead of crushing mine or a jdm 9mr d/v since they can still leak..

thanks in advance!

I'll try and get some video today with a buddy's camera. I'll report back later this afternoon.

Honestly, if you are looking to get a BOV because of the sound....you are putting yourself into the "ricer" category.

Searching through the forums you will find that the APS is one of the best your can get as far as performance.
