NLTS worked 'great' for me...
So I finally wired up the clutch wire to the ECU and thought I'd give NLTS a try. Yesterday I did the test to see that it worked, and then today I actually tried it WOT shifting. When I let the clutch out after shifting I saw smoke behind in my mirror; I then smelled antifreeze. I blew my headgasket, my bottom radiator hose flew off, and I may have wrecked my radiator. I have 0psi of compression in cylinder 1; 120 in #2, and 3 & 4 seem fine @ 140-145 which is normal for my car. I don't know what went wrong, as the NLTS rev limit did work.
I'm glad I overslept this morning so I didn't go to the drag strip, or I would've been stranded there like this.

damn man...sorry to hear about the damage...sounds like something went majorly wrong...I had NLTS setup with my dsmlink on my 97 gsx...worked great...i used that sh*t all the time...never had a problem...wired it right into the cruise control wires from what I can remember...
Yeah, classic case of something happening randomly at the same time something else was occuring. NLTS is NOT the cause, its just the moment when your HG decided to fail. NLTS has been around with 1G's,2G's and Evo's forever. Its not the process that caused this failure.
How exactly did your radiator possibly get ruined?

He blew the headgasket, which pressurized the cooling system. The radiator has plastic endtanks.
I've used tephra's NLTS feature from V5.10 for a while and never had a problem at all. Either you got a jacked up NLTS patch, or it was pure coincidence.

NLTS didn't do anything. If NLTS didn't work, then you will simply bounce off the stock rev limiter. People even NLTS without the NLTS patch.
I think it was merely a coincidence that you car decided to blow it's head gasket during a WOT shift when you were trying NLTS.

Could the NLTS have caused a big boost spike for some reason? I would think it would have had to do something, such as knock and/or extreme overboost, to wreck the headgasket that bad.
I had my car at 30psi all the way to top end before without issue, but I was currently only at 22-24 (22 on the low end, 24 in the middle, falling again to 22). I was also pretty conservative on the timing map right now. If it was 'just going to blow' I don't see why it would do it instead when I'm both driving pretty conservative and have a conservative tune.
FWIW I'm using the 96530706 speed density and ECU controlled boost by setting the base duty cycle with no corrections.
I wish I had been logging at the time so I could see what was going on.

Regardless of NLTS software working or not you should have hit the rev limiter...... if you couldn't row the gears fast enough. Oh my how did people NLTS before NLTS software? They shifted fast as hell!!! I NLTS my EVO all the time when I had it no software either........sorry for you stroke of bad luck though!!
There was another issue at work here!!

I never said the NLTS rev limiter didn't work, even if it didn't that probably wouldn't have caused the problem. I've actually had my car to 9700rpms on a miss-shift once with no issues. Something happened using NLTS, knock, boost spike, something. This headgasket is new this year and held 31psi great, and now it blew hardcore on 22psi and a conservative tune. The INSTANT I let off the clutch on NLTS it blew my headgasket and my radiator hose.

Were you spraying methanol when this happened. If so that'll do it, ask me how I know.
I've been rallying for some time to search for a spark cut or build a spark cut style rev limiter, launch limiter, and NLTS limiter. These fuel cut rev limiters are hard on the motor no matter which way you look at it. The spark cut rev limiter like you get in a good CDI box is really soft and easy on parts. It alternates the firing of the cylinders to provide an even and smooth way to control engine speed.
With less than ideal conditions I feel that a fuel cut style limiter can do in an otherwise healthy motor given the right circumstances. Spark cut is where it is at.

Tell that to the guy who will soak his cylinders with fuel while stationary rev limiting at the tree and washes away all of the oil on the cylinder walls. Sometimes people will hold their launch RPM for nearly 5+ seconds. Not a smart idea for launch conditions at least.
without a log of the run its impossible to tell exactly what happened. you probably had massive amount of detonation during the shift that caused the hg failure. fyi it is important to log when you are trying something new just to be sure you are running safe.
