Well...i just went out temps are in the 60s and knock galore up to 11 counts in 4th, but I cannot hear the engine knock...it just looses power when timing is pulled.
After frustration and wanting to crash the car into a wall wore off I noticed the ses light was on.
OBDII showed p0401 code. I'm going to take off the egrm, clean it and check for loose hoses
I ran evoscan mutIII codes and it said something about knock sensor. don't know what that means.

its timing, somehow my car would pull 3 rd gear clean and then in 4th @ 6K-6.5K i would get knock, reduce timing and try again.

OR

throw in some race gas and see if it happens again - you should get reduced to no knock.

^^this would indicate REAL knock and not a problem with your rom or knock sensor.

You blew off a vacuum line and now air is passing from your intake manifold straight through to your exhaust manifold via the EGR. Its a decent internal boost leak and causes the turbo to overspool and just create excessive heat up top.

ive read that high rpm knock can also be spark plugs if he the progression of timing is smooth.

I fixed the EGR hose and some knock was still there in 4th... set the cams to -2/-2 from 0/-2 and less knock...added 16oz of torco to 1/2 tank of gas and no more knock. The knock is real in 4th even though 3rd is clean.

Read on another thread a post from vividracing about knock and oil weight; I've been using Amsoil 0w-30 signature (always thought it was a bit thin)and coming to think about it my high rpm knock started when I changed over a year ago hmm. I'm going to go back to 10w-30 and see if that has something to do with it.

I am having this same issue. 1-3 is clean. 4th knocks like a *****. Ecu pulls timing and car falls on its face. This was at 29psi. I turned it down to 22psi and the issue remains. I am going to throw some E85 in it and see if that helps but for some reason I do not think it will.

kelfords 272s
stock ecu
29psi on meth-- knock in 4th
22psi on 93 knock in 4th.

At 29psi I had nisie pipes and hks intake.
22psi i have the stock IC pipes and stock intake.

Baffled at this point.

Jorge T, did you ever have a chance to see if the Amsoil 0w-30 oil had anything to do with your knock? I'm very curious because I'm running the same oil as you are.

I finally changed oil and made to two 3-4 gear pulls, 1st run 3 counts of knock in 4th, 2nd run was clean.

Saturday I got some 5 gal of 104 and mixed it in, the blend is like 100 oct. Raised boost to 26-24 psi and no knock. I bumped timing up 5 degrees on top and no knock.

Today added more timing in the mid range and top, still no knock.

Also Monday there was a disturbing piece of news on channel 11 about them catching gas station owners mixing 87 with 93 to make more money. This blew my mind since I've been noticing that during the past 2 years fuel quality is degrading.

Hopefully E85 will not have these fuel manipulation problems.

I've seen 91 octane even showing signs of not being a true 91. Perfect tunes, no knock 26 psi suddenly picking up a 3 count, even after dropping boost to 24 psi. 91 octane is all over the board right now. Makes it tough to get a good handle on the tune when the fuel keeps changing.

Unfortunately, we've had to deal with crappy 91 octane for many, many years in the Los Angeles area. I remember reading an article about 10 years ago that our 91 octane tested out to about 87 octane at a local gas station.

pick a gas station close to your house preferably HESS or SHELL and use only that for awhile. See if its a problem...

Jorge....Have you given consideration that you may need to adjust your knock sensitivity because of having larger cams that create more engine noise especially at higher rpm?

AKA phantom knock.

I would log a pull with knock voltage and knock count. Then you can see if it is real knock or just noise that is being looked at as knock. Real knock will spike the heck out of the knock voltage.

This all depends on if your AFR is spot on.

Paul.. I did adjust knock sensitivity +1 on mid and high. Changing the oil from 0w-30 to 10w30helped a bunch to eliminate 4th gear knock. That amsoil signature 0w-30 flows like water.

But my main conclusion on the variability is fuel quality. My fic 1050 injectors came in...E85 FTW!

Amsoil makes 5w30....I use the heck out of it. Absolutly the best oil on the market.
