I thought I had posted how I resolved my issue, but I guess I didn't.

After tinker for quite a while, I realized the ECU was basically stuck in "write" mode. I was able to finally get EcuFlash to bring the ECU out of flash mode. I then re-read the flash image and it said it was invalid and asked to correct the checksums (wow..that's a dumb question). I of course answered "no" and tossed the image. I then reprogrammed the ECU again and I was back in business. I'm glad to know that the ECU does some checking.

I nailed down the issue to a flaky connection in my USB hub. That has since been replaced.

So how did you knock the ECU out of 'write' mode?

+1, mine's in that same situation right now. wont read or write via laptop or even mut/medic programming. ecu seems as if its stuck in write mode with all system check errors cycling and fans running constantly as soon as the key is turned on. is it just time to get the ecu out and bench flash it, or is there something you did on-car??

Connect the OpenPort 2.0 to your car and turn the IGN to "on" just like you are about to flash the ECU. Load up a ROM file off the computer's Hard Disk so that EcuFlash knows the vehicle its connected to. This should enabled a few menu items in EcuFlash. Click on "ECU" -> "Exit Programming State". That will hopefully fo it for you.

thanks for the help man. i found that in another thread too after searching through the tuning forums for awhile, a bit before you replied actually, but anyway i gave it a shot and it still wouldnt allow any input on my part, so had to remove the ecu and "bench" it, like described so often on here. bench method did the trick and the car runs like a champ now. thanks again for getting back to me on a dead thread though.
