Race gas and methanol

My question is if I run race gas with methanol injection will the octane of race gas go up or down? im using sunoco 110. On pump gas i run 100% methanol. And also can pump gas be mixed with race gas?

octane will go up. legit meth has octane rating of 118.

i prefer to use a 75/25 mix of water/meth when i run 100% race gas in the tank. you have the octane from the race gas, so benefit your system w/ cooler IAT's w/ the better heat absorption of water..

I see, everybody seems to have a different opinion on the matter. Some people claim it will lower the octane...which I dont see how. I read in some thread a while back that too much octane can hurt performance which is also questionable considering we are talking about a boosted car at 30+ PSI . I guess Im going have to do some logging and see how much timing and boost i can throw at it

The cooling effect is what will help your performance.

100% water injection.... Screw the Methanol. Let the race gas handle the octane rating and most of the detonation threshold, use water to help cool IAT's, thus raising the detonation threshold even more. If the water injection kit fails, you'll most likely still have a motor.

That idea crossed my mind but I would have to make major changes to my map as I am running a m10 jet. i road tune the car as I dont have access to a dyno and its hard to do in my area

Well, i would much rather re-tune and switch jets than run Meth with race gas. 100% water injection would be very beneficial. What race gas are you talking about running here? C16, Q16, VP Import? etc.

BTW, you're most likely going to need to re-tune to take advantage of the fuel and water injection, regardless....so either way, a tune is almost a must.

ive asked a tuner why he's having the car he was tuning on a 100%meth and race gas why not go 100% h20 he says that much water can make it harder to ignite the mixture there for no combustion.I dont know how true that is. is tho. but i took his word for it. if i ran race gas i would do a 75% h20 25% meth. once you have the octane needed to hit mbt why go higher? wory about cooling the are down. correct?

There's been some reports of adverse effects using alcohol in conjunction with, or shortly after, leaded fuel. Racefuels (maybe except some oxygenated ones) also burn slower than pump gas so there will be less power. Unless your expecting the injection system to fail it's probably a waste of money to use both.
