I think it's good that it's there for the guys that go past the stock load and RPM ranges.

I think it's a mistake to try and use it to get more resolution in the stock load and RPM range though.

The size is fine though as you can choose to use it or not.

I ended up using it to rescale my rpm in increments of 250 btwn 3500 and 7000. I guess I am just giving myself more extra work once again.

That's what I did from day 1. I just extended the stock scale up to 500 load and 11000 RPM (IIRC). That way converting to big maps is simple. All you have to do is extrapolate your tune to the new cells....and even if you don't, most people won't reach that area, so it's not a big rush to tune that area anyway.

Bro, don't beat yourself up over this. Don't worry about the people that say they want less resolution. They should be able to figure out how to properly scale their maps anyway and extrapolate data points. Your big maps are perfect. For people out there that do this for a living, i don't think a single one of them will disagree. The higher the resolution the better. If you could release even bigger maps, i would be all about it. You want as many data points as you can get. It makes tuning a little longer, but once properly tuned, the engine will run smoother and more reliably.

For you guys that want less resolution, just rescale your big maps back to stock, then extrapolate the rest anyway you wish. But, why you would want to do this, is beyond me. Ultimately, it's your car though. Have at it.

p.s. Some of you obviously don't have much experience tuning anything other than an Evo and/or aftermarket standalone ECUs. While this is ok and not needed when it comes to tuning the Evo(once you learn how to tune the Evo), you have to understand that your lack of experience is holding back your understanding of this subject. When it comes to resolution, bigger will always be better, to a certain extent. By no means am i talking down to anybody, especially not the OP. So, please, don't take it that way.

I love the big map. When running 430 load the stock resolution is too low.

dont get disheartened tephra! This is awesome! We hope that u will find the time to continue your tephra mods for us 7, 8's, and 9's in the future, as we know, u now have a X!
Guys, I believe this was specifically meant for the big boys running big turbos, that far exceed the 300 load limit on the stock maps. Not so much for us runnin the stocker and under, or @ 300 load. I also think tephra has set it up perfectly for both stock and larger turbos to utilize the big maps! U dont have to use the entire map! I use it up to 300 load, (just as is) leave the rest interpolated 1* or afr point less. And use a few of the added rpm cells. They are great for timing, ramping it up, up top!

I was having issues w/ my comp. and V.7/V.5 .xmls mixing themselves up, but once I got it squared away, I came back... V.7 is the bees knees!

thanks Dave, Keep up the awesomeness!!!

I like the Lancer maps. I don't use my turbo anyway so I don't need all of that resolution. J/K

Thanks Tephra and everyone else involved in making the ECU perform tasks that it was never intended to do. It brings a smile to my face no lift shifting my Black at full tilt with resolution out to 450.

Sorry, but you are wrong.
The problem with too much resolution is that the timing advance resolution sucks.

If we had 0.5 degree timing advance increments, it would be fine, but being limited to 1 degree increments pretty much eliminates the reasoning for anything smaller the 500 RPM increments in much of the map. The increase in load axis though, particularly on the MAF is a bonus without a doubt on the VIII ECU.

Tephra, no worries man. The added resolution is awesome and will be a true benefit to the community. Thank you.

I noticed a bug with the load. I hit about 440 load at the max and i have modified the rom to with the (set to 9 to remove load limit) patch and in a bunch of areas the load just goes from reading normal to "0" or "3" or "8.5" "34" etc.. what causes this? Its just the logging, because the car doesn't do anything bad when it occurs.

with more resolution you can control exactly when the timing jumps up 1 degree..
