question about cable purchase

Im about to purchase and download EvoScan to log and download Ecuflash, and purchase a cable to datalog and flash. Im deciding between two cables on Limitless' website...either the Limitless Designs Open Port 1.3R ($97) and Open Port 1.3U ($137) cables.

The description for 1.3R is "Same cable as OpenPort 1.3U except it does not include EcuFlash serial license."

What exactly is the "Ecu Flash serial license" that comes with the more expensive 1.3U cable? I thought ECU Flash was a free download?? I want to know the differfence exactly between I buy one cable or the other.

youll need the 1.3u. Sounds like each cable has a serial and if it doesnt apply to ecuflash, ecuflash will not allow the cable to work properly with its drivers. I have the 1.3u myself.

The 1.3R can be flashed inside evoscan but not ecuflash itself. Heres some info i digged up from a quick google search;

The OpenPort 1.3D (only useful for Datalogging)
The OpenPort 1.3R (only useful for Datalogging and Reprogramming the ECU if using EVOSCAN, not ECUFLASH as it doesn't have the necessary ECUFLASH serial number)
The OpenPort 1.3U (useful for Datalogging and Reprogramming with ECUFLASH, has the necessary ECUFLASH serial number)

Ahaaaa I get it now, ok thank you! I really will only be scanning 99.9999% of the time, I just want to have the ability to reflash thru ecuflash in case I need David to tweek anything in my tune for me after I get my car back. Ill just spend the extra few bucks and get the proper one.
