Hey all,
Some of you guys that have been on here for awhile probably remember me from awhile back and my time spent in the ECU flash forum. After dang near two years on and off, I finally have the car back together and am working out a few last issues after fixing what needed to be fixed.
I am looking for a favor from some of the guys that might remember me from awhile back, what I am looking for is a timing map for a ~10.2:1 93 octane map, and mostly from the ~220 load mark and below.
I am finding it is difficult to "catch up" on well over a year and a half of no ECU to play with, and test out all the changes and things going on during that time. Now that I have the car actually running again, I am just looking for a little help from the standpoint of a starting place. (I am NOT interested in something I can just flash the car with and run, I will be fully developing my own finalized map)
Here is the "general" spec's on the car, so if you have something similar:
Currently the car has a 96940011 ROM in it, and I am thinking of switching to one of the big maps and starting there, so if you have something in one of the other maps, I am game for that too.
10.2:1 Compression
Starting with 93 and will later move to E85 once engine is broken in.
Fully built race head with reshaped combustion chambers
+1mm over intake & exhaust valves
Ported and polished everything (TB, IM, Head, Ex, Turbo etc)
GSC S2's
Evo IX Turbo (~28-29psi boost, not going as high as I used to)
This is probably the most relavant information needed for the Sub-220 load mark.
Like I said, I am just looking to get a little help from someone to get me back on the right track after not having my ECU to tune for over a year and a half. To Reiterate, I am NOT interested in anything over 220 load's as I will be tuning that myself. I am just a little nervous about the even higher compression, under 220 load timing areas.
If you have something that would work as a starting point, I would be greatly appreciative, as I will now be jumping back in head first, I just need a little help with a starting point. Last night I drove the car, and it was dumb slow because I took the entire map and killed ~4 degrees out of the entire map to error on the safe side, and it didn't seem to like it one bit. It was actually a little more difficult to drive that way.
If you could, I would greratly appreciate it, send a map and xml to the following:

Well, if you don't get any good answers, here is an idea. You raised compression 16%, simply reduce timing by 16% and then tune from there.
In all honesty, I think you are being overly cautious. I think if you start tuning with some degree of caution you will be fine. I'd suggest using steady state tuning to work on each load section of the map and keep slowly adding boost once you are comfortable with where you are.
Also, I'd suggest adding the knock light mod to your ROM. This alone is one of the best tuning aids IMNSHO.

I do have my 96940011 ROM pimped out with the latest gadetry, so from that perspective I am good to go. I am confident in my tuning abilities, and being able to ge there, I guess I am just looking to get a head start, thats all.
The question that keeps getting me is how do you tune the under say 140 loads from 3,000 to 6,000? Really all your doing in that area is a higher RPM steady state cruise really. So how do you know if your timing in those areas is *really* good to go in accordance to the changed compression ratio... I am sure that the stock numbers in that area aren't ideal to the compression ratio...
my personal preference is NOT going with tephra mod (which has the knock CEL) until you fully understand all the changes(theres alot). it has alot of great features but its still not perfected yet, people still have issues with it during cold start etc etc...
anyhow before doing tuning i would increase your load range for timing and fuel map. even if you dont use all of it, you will get more detailed map in between each cell. i would also look into enabling the periphery bites, it opens up alot of "hidden" features in the ecu without really changing your image itself.
also i wouldnt worry about doing alot of tuning 100 load or below, as thats basically open loop. for anything over 100 load, i would start with stock map but "tone down or up" the large up or down spikes of afr and timing. also smooth out timing and afr as much as you can, sudden change can cause knock even if the numbers themselves is safe. another personal note is i would disable lean spool(which can be done if you enable those periphery bits) as its difficult to tune with it. finally i would NOT run 27-28 psi (especially on your high compression) until you get your tune close to what you want atleast, i would personally stop at less then 20 psi until you get things smoothed out. hope i helped.

Don't worry about any of that, I am certainly not a newbie at tuning. I have been doing this since 06 really.... Many of the senior members/regulars here in this forum will attest to that...
I just had a looooong break from my ECU, and lots have happened since then...

Yeah, I actually drove it yesterday too for a bit... I am just a little nervous with the compression being this high, and I don't feel like tearing it apart again because I went a littel overboard with the timing a little too much.. So, I figure I would come back to where I learned everything and just ask!
I have a decent map that I made last night as a starting point, so I will be going from there unless someone shoots me something different..
man you confuse me, you come off asking for free maps, wondering how to tune low load, and applying -5 timing to your whole map so showed you a noob then say your experienced? im confused. whatever, give me back my 10 minutes back for trying to help!

Haha, I can see how you could be confused.. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, I spent too much time this weekend banging my head on the bottom of the car... If you really want to know, just do a search for my username, I was very active in here from 2007-2008.5, then dropped off the radar.
I am sure Aaron (JohnBradley) remembers me from awhile ago...
And I am certainly not asking for free maps, don't think that, I know better than to use someone elses map..
I am just looking for a small section of a map, don't care about anything else...
I don't know why you keep asking others to vouch for you, I don't care if you are noob or supertuner. Email addy? I give you my fuel and timing map as a start if you want a comparo

I am doing a 93 tune first because it has a full tank of 93 in it now that needs to be burned off, and I don't want to break it all in on E85. As soon as this tank is done, I will probably run one more with 93 then make the switch back to E85.
Right now I am just wanting to get some miles on the car, and find any issues she might have before I start beating it like it owes me money..
