only 10* at 7k? seems weak. timing map seems awful repetitive also. big blocks will effect how the car pulls mid range etc. show the 3d map.
other then the huge block of 5's its not bad..

It's an Evo IX, I don't run as much timing as the Evo VIII's. Seemed like 10 was a good start and when the car is up and running try to advance. This is mainly a start-up tune with no logs because I'm going from a 2.0l to a 2.3l. I don't want to knock at all during break in.

hmmmm, what blocks would you change for timing?

you map similar to me with the timing map

if it were me i would put even amount 3 4 and 5's. your map tells me you're pretty much aiming for 5 at peak boost.

hmmm, I'll look into doing that. I think what I'll do is run it on this map see if I get any knock then run it with your changes. Obviously I'll make more power, but I want to see if it comes at the risk of knock.

It depends on what kind of loads you are hitting. For example, if you are only hitting say 320 max loads, then the *huge* block of 5's isn't bad because you never get past 320 load values. This is only for an example.

Once you figure out what kind of max loads you are seeing, I would bring back some resolution in the 100-240/260 range, but that's just me, I am a sucker for the part throttle spirited driving, with a high end punch. The high end doesn't need the kind of resolution you have in that map. Almost every car I have ever tuned, the owners say that the part throttle tuning in the car was what they liked the most.

I agree with Tscomp, 10* at 7k does seems a little weak. I wonder if the 5* at peak torque, assuming you are really going to *eventually* work that black will be a touch to much. (Note eventually, judging by your Boost/Gear Map.)

Good advice. I guess I can't really do anything until I get a few pulls in. I haven't even fired up the car yet with the new setup. I have noticed that my loads jumped up with the AMS F1-I intake manifold; I put this on when I was still 2.0l. Either way I guess we'll have to see what happens when the car runs.

For now I think this is a safe tune until I get past 1500 miles on the new motor and the fun begins.

I've never actually tuned a 2.3 Evo, but I can tell you that on a 2.0 on pump and decent amount of boost (25-30psi) the mid range timing is too high to use as a base map.

How much boost are you targeting?

P.S. - There is no reason you should be using big maps, you are actually creating more work for yourself than necessary.

more resolution in the mapping allows more control over the tune and loads/rpm the vehicle traces. also, give me a v5 map vs a v7 and see how much more smoothly i can make a v7 run.. the extra resolution is a huge plus and if you understand how to use it to your advantage its as good as some of the best EMS's out there.
