Passing emissions testing with a JDM Evo 7?
Hey guys, i'm looking into buying a jdm evo 7 that a friend of a friend owns. he lives in a county that doesn't have to do emissions testing, however, I do. I am trying to figure out a way that the car can pass the tests. I believe that JDM cars don't have o2 sensors so I don't know if it's somehow possible to make the ecu say that the car has passed the tests. I've seen the "patch" threads, however to make that work i'm sure the patch has to be modified, or maybe there is some other way to do it. I've contacted several local tuners and am waiting for replies. Thanks In advance for any help guys!

Yep seen a few VII's with a rear O2 sensor, most notably UK spec FQ-300's. Being OBD II compliant it should have no issues passing the plug in tests.

Front/rear o2, cat, ans anything else that they may look at when I go to get it tested.
Are you sure? I find that hard to believe that it will pass.

If it's JDM model VII there will be no rear O2. There is a quick way around this by using a Tephra rom with a rear O2 simulator, but I can't believe you would have to add a sensor that is not part of the original car.
The rear O2 sensor is actually to check operation of the Pre-CAT as it sits in front of the main cat. As JDM cars don't have pre-CAT's most were not fitted with a rear O2.

why would they look for something rear o2that was never in the car in the first place /
if they use tailpipe sniffer for Co etc you need a working cat and o2 installed if its only a plug in with working o2 it will pass readiness test

They use the rear o2 to check for cat efficiency, so wouldn't you need a signal from a rear o2 to pass the testing for cat efficiency? There is no way a jdm car, with no rear o2, or cat, is going to pull into a testing facility, and pass tests for things it doesn't have.
The JDM cars have a CAT, just not the small one in the downpipe the rear O2 checks the efficiency of. What have others who have imported a JDM car done for the testing?
Yes as said you could use one of the Tephra roms with the rear O2 simulator enabled, but the rear O2 is not even present and you are effectively getting something tested that does not exist.
Only the X roms contain the VIN data, none of the preceding models.
