no, i havent done that because i wanted to dowload and save a stock rom since the previous owner had the ecu flash tuned and who knows what turbotrix did to it. i wanted to flash a stock rom back into the car and start tuning from there. plus i wanted to mess around with a stock rom and figure the ecuflash out and who to change things etc etc. hope that makes since.

i cant justify spending the money for evoscan and a tactrix cable if i cant figure all this out beforehand when i could simply get aem and download the software to my computer and tune from there without all this hassle which is quickly the way im leaning since i seem to have f'ed everything up in the ecuflash and roms that were previously working.

as i stated before i had a few stock roms that i was able to open up and view and now i cant after screwing with the tephra patches and trying to get it working.

Noob here with an IX. This is what I did to start over and got software/files to click
1)remove ecuflash. i think this removes previous incorrect inheritance selections. this will also delete the evo rom directory
2)install ecuflash
3)copy tephra-recompile v7 files into the evo rom directory. you can copy the whole dir as backup if you want
4)start ecuflash. no errors should be on the task info screen (or else fix that first)
5)open tephra-recompile v7 bin file (you should not get a prompt for inheritance whatchumacallit screen)

k, been replying. followed that link. the link is where i downloaded some of the roms before that worked, and now they dont.

is there somewhere i can call and talk to tech support that way its alot easier on both parties? instead of trying to describe what im getting i can have it up and tell them, and then they say ok go here and do this and tell me what happens...

I guess no one has encountered this problem before or something. decided i would try to call tactrix support and he said something was probably corrupted when i tried patching some of the roms. he sent an email stating how to wipe my computer completely clean of all folders associated with it. He also provided links to re download ecuflash. even though i have done this about 10 times now i followed the instructions and well guess what still nothing. Mellon racing was even nice enough to send a 94170015 rom with the immobalizer disabled to see if that would work and if i could open it and it was a no go too so i know its not the fact im downloading old roms.

this is the rom chris sent me
03_04_LANCER_EVO8_USDM_94170015.hex

when i try opening it in ecuflash this is the exact error message i get word for word.

Unknown ROM Image
EcuFlash could not recognize this ROM image using any of the current definitions. You can choose one of the following options:

*Abort using this ROM image
*Use wizard to create a new definition (NOT RECOMMENDED!!!-FOR DEVELOPERS ONLY)

now if i click on the abort using this rom image of course it just closes out that window.

if i choose the second option, use wizard to create a new definiton, i get the following:
Unknown ROM Image
*Defined from scratch
*Copied from the definition below
*Inherited from the definition below

if i choose define from scratch, nothing appears in the drop down menu below that but i can click next... this is what i get when i click next
No Memory Models
There are no memory models suitable for this ROM. Please contact Openecu.org for further help.

if i choose the second option copied from the definition below again nothing is listed in the drop down menu, however if i click next like before i get a message stating EcuFlash has stopped working and then it closes out.

if i choose the third option i get the same thing as the second option, nothing in the drop down menu, and clicking next only forces ecuflash closed.

that is the exact problem word for word, copied and pasted with the rom that i know for a fact should work since it came from a reputable tuner (suppose to be a stock 94170015 rom) and it will not open. i cant describe the situation any better than what i have in this post. if you dont have a solution or have any help please dont bother responding

look for a temp subfolder in ecuflash. I've seen them have a copy of the xml files for some reason and until they are deleted xml changes will not take place.
