Double-din/In-dash Evoscan Interface

Just wondering if there are any advances in the idea of logging/viewing vehicle parameters through a in-dash GPS system. If there are, please fill me in. I'm willing to pay an obscene amount of money for this ability as I'm just in love with the idea. Reason being, I hate gauges cluttering up what is already a decent/functional interior. Am I the only one?

This can and has been done for quite a while. Just search CarPC and/or look at mp3car.com. I think I posted a couple videos on youtube a while back of mine and there are threads on here of a few other people who have done CarPCs as well.

here is about 20 youtube videos on my blog.

I will tell you one thing.. gauges in the centre console screen idea sucks when racing. I have 2x 10inch screens and 4x 7inch screens in my car. and to tell you the truth.. the only one I look at regularly when driving is the evoscan gpsnav 4.3inch touchscreen attached on the A-pillar right in my face to display all the evoscan vehicle params..

and some more here:

Okay, it's all starting to sound like a good idea now. So this unit is capable of data logging too? I'm assuming the touch screen holds the evoscan software right? Then from there the tatrix cable plugs into a USB jack that feeds information to the screen? This entire system seems as easy as plugging the screen into a power source then connecting the tatrix cable to the USB jack, totaling a whopping 5 minute instal. Is everything plug and go or is there programming needed?

I'll be honest, I was a skeptic but after looking into it further my mind may have been changed.

yep the touchscreen plugs into any openport cable, and datalogs to the sdcard. (openport 2 for evoX, any openport 1.3 cable for Evo7/8/9)

yep touchscreen holds the software (well actually the sdcard in the slot does)

yep its pre-configured for evo7/8/9/X, you can edit the data.xml on the sdcard if you want to add some extra mods.
