Looking for tune input (logs, maps, vd, etc inside)
I think its about time I start asking for input on my tune. I feel like Im all over the place with what I think works and what doesnt. And I feel like I can get more out of it. Getting back into autox and want the most low end response I can get. And want to extract all the top end I can get without taking too much from the bottom end. (sounds familiar, huh?)
Here is a quick mod list:
94172715 (SD 2.0)
3" tbe w/ works HFC, and unkown o2 housing
Custom air intake, unknown open-ended coner filter.
Ingersoll Rand BCS @ 22-20psi
unknown LICP
XSPower
FMIC
custom straight UICP w/ Tial Q
Spoolinup COP w/ bpr8eix gapped at .028
Walbro 255
40k act hdss w/ light flywheel
91 octane
I know what most of the shortcomings of the hardware are. Im eventually looking for 400whp in SM trim, as responsive as possible. What Im mainly after right now is how to get the most out of the setup I have, the tune, and the specifics of speed density. Ive been on some form of SD now for a little over a year, daily driving, so I do have a basic understanding of how it works.
Here are a couple maps. kPA-Load & Map Sensor kPA are 1:1, RPMVE has been adjusted to acheive desired AFR in Fuel map.

And a log from today with a VD chart. Stock weight assumed to be 3285-135(a/c, rear seats, speakers, belts, spare, etc)+185=3335
I feel like pk boost is late. I was hitting 20 by 3000 2 weeks ago in 4th BEFORE fixing major boost leaks this past weekend.
not sure why it says hp/tq up top in the graph, but its the DJ setting.
change extension of log to .csv

Good news is that I found some old logs on my backup and compared to other 3rd gear pulls from 1 month and 1 year ago and they all hit pk boost around 3400-3500 rpm, the boost curve shape is different last year due to mbc. Bad news is that Im down 20-30hp from where I was then, but I was running more boost.
Also, Im getting a consistently huge difference in HP/TQ in between 4th and 3rd. Im not sure if its VD or not. But boost and TQ come on much earlier in 4th. I tightened up the 3rd gear column of the WGDC table. We'll see if it overshoots.

Im eventually going to shoot for a higher spike. I was just hoping that I could get more out of it with more conservative boost. Last year I was spiking 24-25, holding 22 to redline. I'll at least do that.
Does anyone else feel like it spools late for what it is?

Starting to turn the wick up a little bit. And Im pretty sure Im blowing the spark out at pk boost in 4th. My old copper plugs were gapped at .030 and I just swapped to iridiums this past weekend. Measured the gap at .028 out of the box, so I tossed them in. Im pretty sure what I experienced was blow out. The attached chart doesnt show it. But in my log Boost goes 24.6-18.5-23.0 right at 3250. It hiccuped, the boost gauge fluttered, then it was back to normal. No knock in the log....not fuel cut...
So Im going to tighten them up to .024 and go from there.
Green = Sat, 3rd gear, same one posted earlier
Blue = This afternoon, 3rd gear
Red = This morning, 4th gear with the hiccup right at 3250.

Here is where Im currently at. Wasnt able to start either of these pulls down low. Seem to be having a tough time richening it up around 6k. And leaning it out at pk boost. Ive been trying to "anticipate" the change and make adjustments to the cells that are a couple lines earlier in the logs, but it still doesnt seem to be changing like it should. Also, I havent touched the fuel map at all...its still set to my target values (low 11s) and Im just adjusting RPM VE to try and match it. I think Im getting to the point to where I need to start adjusting the fuel map instead and just leave the VE table alone. Im also getting sporadic 8+ counts of knock around 6-6.5k. When that doesnt happen, there is no more than 1 count through the pull. Im not really sure why its happening. Timing is roughly 1* at pk tq and 10-11* at redline. I smoothed the boost curve around 4500 last night, no logs from today though. But it pulls great, unless it knocks hard up top.
Ive currently got it setup to drop to wastegate pressure at 8 counts of knock. Any input on whether I should turn this off?

I wonder if your solenoid is noisy? Do you have it isolated?
Sure .024isn't too optimistic still? I have an ix but I'm around .022-3

Not sure what you mean? The BCS?
It was definitely audible at idle/cruise at one point when I had something in the boost control tables setup to where it was operating during those conditions. I think the "wgdc=100 until load" table is what changed that. But if thats what youre talking about, yeah...it may be noisey.
Ive got it firmly mounted to the acd bracket. And the bleed line is routed down in front of the tire. Should I mount it somewhere else or a different way?
I was running .030 with bpr8es's just fine. When I installed the cop last year, I went from .022 to .030 and never had an issue. This is the 1st time Ive ran iridiums. And I havent had any issues with these since I re-gapped them to .024.
^^just occurred to me that maybe your asking because misfires can look like knock...
hmm.....I just made some major changes to my ve map. Hooked the desktop monitor to the laptop and bumped down the resolution to get a big 3d map and smoothed the hell out of it. If that doesnt make a change for the better, then I'll re-gap down to .022 and try and again.

Iridiums are the only way to go.. I would bump the timing at peak torque or atleast turn the boost up. When I see your examples of a boost spike, it is too sudden and abrupt. You want to make it nice and smooth, and for a longer period of time. Check out my thread in the dyno section, I run 30psi and taper to 28 but its gradual.
What load do you have your wgdc = 100% set at?

I've never done it but maybe drop them back to .022 ish and widen from there. Also the bcs if mounted rigidly I've seen people talk about it being noisy to the knock sensor. Thoughts to ponder
boosted91t,
The earlier graphs I posted had an overcorrection happening right after peak. Thats mostly why they look like that. My goal is 24 psi up to 5k, 23 at 6k, and 22 at 7k. And to be honest Im not sure I should run any more than that on 91 oct. The logs I have that peak at 27 (woops
) do not show any increase in TQ, though they have alot of correction happening right after pk. Im attaching my BDE psi map for reference of what Im trying to acheive. My WGDC=100% is set to 200. Im logging 205 load at 7k at 21 or so psi right now, so Im definitley not going to raise it. If anything it will come down to 195. But now Im wondering if I should mess with the kpa-load table to bring my upper rpm load up. Its 1:1 right now. But my logged kpa is definitely higher than my logged load.
211ratsbud,
I think I'll go ahead and mount the BCS differently. See if I can find some rubber mounts in my random hardware coffee cans. May shorten the lines as well.
Im also attaching the smooth and unsmooth VE maps.

I have a hardware store mbc that was on the car when I got it, and a cheap BR mbc that gave me wierd curves (it would peak low, steady out, then rise and taper like normal) and probably a bit rusty on the inside.
holy hell thats a smooth map! Nice job. Did you use the map smoothing tool? It works if you use the timing tab
though, I didnt use it on mine yet.
Im only using about 2/3rds of the map and the rest is set to conservative values, so a couple of the jumps upwards you see in mine are where its outside of my normal operating cells.
