Just curious to see how many people are running 3D SD vs. 2D SD, and why you chose the one you did.

2D for quick simplicity but 3D can mirror MAF much better if the tuner is given the time to mirror both.

3D as found it gives a nice finish to the tables, takes longer to sort but give you the fine tuning

you dont need 3d to get fuel economy. my buddy Steve i tuned with a evo 9 gets 300Miles to a tank on e85.. it doesn't get much better then that.. and that is off o2 feedback just timing added to cruise. nothing to do with sd code.

my car with city driving recently managed 220 miles. with occasional WOT as i was trying to wear in my new transmission.

the important thing to know when using SD is to take advantage of not having to bottleneck the intake .. get a nice big intake with a big filter
and take advantage of the ability to allow the turbo to breath better. thats where the power comes from. i feel the car is much happier on sd then maf just by the way it responds differently.

If you have a competent local dyno shop with a load bearing dyno that can help you load the dyno at specific RPM points, you can log an Evo on MAF with a map sensor and build a 3D VE table in about an hour. If you won't/can't start with a MAF tune first, its gonna take you a great deal longer to get it 'just right'.

Fuel economy isn't really any different between MAF,2D and 3D SD if tuned properly. The major difference is how smooth the transitions will be as engine load varies on 2D vs MAF or 3D.

For my setup I run Open Loop 100% of the time. Without 3D I would go rich under certain condition at a specific manifold pressure, while lean under different conditions at the same pressure. This is where i get the fuel economy benefit.
