I always wondered why the stock mitsubishi timing maps are so randomly agressive and knock prone...
The fact is that they knew how to tune before releasing the VIII and IX. Proof: Look at the Evo VII ralliart map vs stock VIII.

If they would have flashed a smooth map the car would have been much more reliable and more power would have been made without knock... It's a real joke. I have absolutely no answer to that, is anyone know why?

I would say that honestlyyou can't just look at timing as I am guessing the boost is turned up on the Ralliart map. Remember stock evos boost curve falls off pretty hard. Now if you look at boost, fuel and timing I bet they are all more "aggressive" on the Ralliart map vs the stock 8 map.
The map is obviously not a 91 map.
But look at 220: 1-5-7-5-7-6-10... at 240: 2-3-2-2-4-3-7...
I even remember that the car accelerated by steps when stock.
Why ?? I bet that it's was to test fuel, create knock at low RPM, to ensure that timing will be okay at high RPM

good call with so many non native fuel types and qualities available.
